Mrs. Connally had the best seat in the house (pardon the flip expression) when it came to injuries sustained by her husband, Gov. JBC on 11.22.
Mrs. Connally's testimony flatly contradicts, and really obviates, the SBT-LNT theorizing.
After being shot, JBC was incapacitated, and she thought him "dead."
I rather suspect a man shot through the chest with a large high-powered slug would in fact be incapacitated. That is a reasonable assumption.
The SBT-LNT hypothesis is that after being shot through the chest, JBC makes a 180-degree turn in his seat to check on JFK. That is, the SBT-LNT theory posits, despite contradictory evidence, that JBC was shot ~Z-221.
The SBT-LNT hypothesis does not check out with the Z-film, or the testimony of both Connallys.
Connally: I was knocked over, just doubled over by the force of the bullet. It went in my back and came out my chest about 2 inches below and the left of my right nipple. The force of the bullet drove my body over almost double and when I looked, immediately I could see I was just drenched with blood. (1 HSCA 42)
My best guess is JBC is shot ~Z-295. After Z-221, JBC is bolt upright. Not doubled over.
Caveat emptor, and draw your own conclusions.

In the Zapruder film, Mrs. Connally can clearly be seen looking straight ahead, and not at all at her husband as he's hit, like she said she did. It's easy to distinguish her forehead and hairline, as well as upper facial features, i.e. eyes and nose in frames 225 and 226. She doesn't turn her head to her right until after her husband is struck. She didn't see him when he was struck. She saw the aftermath of when he was struck.

My view:
Well, sure Mrs JBC did not see Gov. JBC being shot at ~Z-221, as he was not shot then.
JBC was shot ~Z-295, maybe even a few frames later.
Just IMHO.

This is just silly. Of course she wasn't looking at him in Z225-226, because he wasn't hit yet. Sheesh, how long are you guys going to bury your heads in the sand and ignore the fact that Connally himself, the guy who actually experienced the wounding, identified Z234 as the moment of impact, after carefully studying high-quality color prints of the relevant frames under high magnification? His identification of Z234 as the moment of impact dovetails perfectly with what forensic science tells us about how long it would have taken for his shoulder to be driven downward, for the air forced from his lungs to cause his cheeks to puff, and for a pained expression to appear on his face.
But you guys have to ignore this plain, obvious evidence because it destroys your SBT fantasy.

She had the worst seat for determining what was going on. She was too close to what was happening to take it all in. She couldn't see both JFK and JBC in the same field of vision. That is why nothing she says invalidates the SBT.

That's asinine. JBC turned 180 degrees in reaction to being shot through the chest.

Your best guess is FUBAR. The only thing you got right is that it was a guess, and very bad one. It's even worse than Andrew Mason's. I doubt either of you could spell "cat" if we spotted you the "C" and the "A"

We have and most of us think you and Andrew Mason haven't got a clue what happened.

What do you make of the following:
1. Greer’s statement and testimony that he made his first of two turns to the rear almost simultaneously with hearing the second shot and saw JBC falling back. He begins that turn a few frames before z281.
2. Hickey’s observation that the second shot did not appear to hit JFK as he just saw the hair on the right side of his head fly up.
3. Nellie’s statement that JBC recoiled form the second shot and she reached out and pulled down on her lap.

I didn't say anything about Z-221! Read my comment again, she is looking straight ahead in frames 225 and 226. And JBC was wounded at the same time JFK was shot as the Zapruder film clearly reveals.. You have a lot of explaining to do if you actually believe he wasn't hit until Z-295 or later!

You're the one who has his head buried in the sand, Griffith.

You're the one who has his head buried in the sand, Griffith.
As you know, the Connally's both said they heard/felt three shots - JBC heard two and said he was hit by a third. Mrs. Connally said she heard three.
Not four, not five, not six.
And both said the shots came from behind them. Including the one that hit JFK in the head. From behind. Not in front, not from the fence, not from the overpass.
Griffith doesn't believe any of this. But he suddenly believes them when it suits his conspiracy claims.
Of course, he also says the Zapruder film was faked, altered and is unreliable. But suddenly when he thinks it supports his beliefs it becomes reliable.

Thanks for your inquiry.
Well, more or less Greer's narrative lines up with the Connallys, if I understand it correctly.
Mrs. Connally's narrative supports the "first shot hit JFK, the second hit JBC, and third hit JFK." The Connallys have been solid on that from Day One. They are not lefties, or KGB assets, and appear to have no axes to grind. They are just calling a spade a spade.
What Mrs. JBC meant by the word "recoil" is hard to say, but likely that was JBC doubling over from the shot that struck him, which happens ~Z-295.
BTW, JBC getting shot ~Z-295 lines up neatly with the many witnesses who described a "bang....bang-bang" cadence of shots on 11.22.

Your shot times are a much better fit with the evidence than the first-shot-miss SBT, but I would suggest that your z295 second shot is too late. JBC has already fallen back onto Nellie. Greer has already completed his turn to the rear and has turned forward. I don’t see any hair flying up on JFK’s right side around there either.
As far as “recoil” is concerned, that is normally a term used to describe momentum imparted by a force. JBC described a significant impact from the bullet hitting him. Do you see any movement at all in that z250-z295 area?
-
We have estimates of the supposed first shot ocurring "not at all" and at umpteen different places after the turn into Elm. The Warren Commission said it was "not probable" that the shot to the back occurred "before Z210." (Not probable being another way to say "not impossible"). The HSCA: "Taken together with other evidence, the photographic and acoustical evidence led the committee to conclude that President Kennedy and Governor Connally were struck by one bullet at approximately Zapruder frame 190." The FBI said from the get-go and in its final report that JFK had been hit by two shots and JBC by a different third shot, and the Secret Service concurred. John Orr, Josiah Thompson and apparently the three Parkland doctors who treated JBC have him being struck around Z236. JBC himself seems like an extremely credible witness, yet he counts for nothing. As with so many aspects of the JFKA, this sounds suspiciously more like a Rorshach test than an objective analysis. How much of when people think JFK and JBC were hit is agenda-driven?

Nothing in the Z-file indicates either of the Connallys were looking at JFK when either the first or second shot was fired so how could either know which bullet struck him?
JBC not being shot until Z295 doesn't remotely line up with anything in the Z-film. It's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen proposed regarding the JFKA.
-
Andrew Mason: Thanks for your collegial inquiry.
I have looked at the Z-film a thousand times, and frame by frame.
I am a layman, though I am not sure there is such a thing as an "expert" at looking at blurry home movies and divining the moment of impact of a bullet on a body. Each to his own.
Another bit of Mrs. Connally's testimony, again indicating JBC was pushed forward at the moment he was struck from behind by a large slug, that tunneled along a rib, meeting resistance, and pushing his body forward.
As I see it, JBC lunge or is pushed forward ~Z-295.
The LNT-SBT theorizing evolved in response to President LBJ's diktat that LHO be found a LN with no leads to Havana or Moscow (no nuke war please), and the WC's subsequent necessity in making the evidence line up with that premise.
There were three loud shots heard deep inside the TSBD on 11.22, and that indicates there was in fact a TSBD6 sniper who fired three shots. Prime suspect is LHO.
The problem is the shot cadence---the shots that strike JBC and JFK are too close together to have been fired by a lone gunsel armed with a single-shot bolt action rifle. The "bang....bang-bang" cadence. Dallas Sheriff Seymour Weitzman described the last two shots as nearly "simultaneous." A man with much experience in firearms.
There is the possibility of simultaneous shots heard as one shot on 11.22, or of someone firing using a silencer.
-
LP--
Well...nearly every bit of evidence in the entire JFKA saga, including the Tippit angle, is one big Rorshach test.
However, I am divinely inspired, and thus correct in my conclusions on the JFKA.

That is helpful to have that testimony from Nellie Connally. She provides a time for the sound of the second shot: at the moment she shopped looking at JFK and turned to look at JBC. Where do you see that occurring? She says that JBC moved or “lunged” forward. Greer said he turned to the rear almost simultaneously with hearing the second shot and Hickey said JFK’s hair flew up on the second shot. Where do you see those things occurring? I may be wacko in my thinking according to some on this board, but I would suggest that if all these things can be seen within a few frames of each other that would be good evidence of when the second shot occurred.
The LNT-SBT theorizing evolved in response to President LBJ's diktat that LHO be found a LN with no leads to Havana or Moscow (no nuke war please), and the WC's subsequent necessity in making the evidence line up with that premise.

I agree that the evidence is very strong that the last two were closer together and in rapid succession. But that does not tell us whether they were too close to have been fired from a bolt action rifle. That’s really the issue. Locating the time of the second shot based on the evidence, not speculation, is the way to resolve that question, in my opinion. What’s your view?

Thanks for your collegial inquiry.
Well, again, my layman's view is that Gov. JBC is pushed forward ~Z-295. Maybe a few frames later, and he falls into his wife's lap about the time JFK is struck.
There is a consensus that JFK is struck at Z-313.
IMHO, the JBC-JFK strikes are less than one second apart (18 fps) and that lines up with Seymour Weitzman's testimony that the last two audible shots on 11.22 were nearly simultaneous. SS agent Kellerman described the last two audible shots as a "flurry."
LHO had a single-shot-per-bolt-action rifle. LHO was a good shot, and maybe he got lucky that day. The M-L short rifle was built to solid military specs, accurate to 200 meters.
But I don't see how LHO fired rapidly enough to be a lone assassin.

But when does Nellie stop looking at JFK and turn to look at her husband? That is where she put the second shot.
I am not sure what motion you are referring to at z295. Can you elaborate?
How about the motion of JBC just before he falls back on his wife?:

Most witnesses described distinct shots and many estimated that the space between the last two was about half that between 1 and 2.

I am the first to concede that identifying the exact frame JBC is shot...well, I am guessing.
JBC's mouth gapes open after Z-295, maybe toward Z-300 or later, as if he is in pain.
Humans take more than one-tenth of a second to register pain, generally, or so I have read.
Mrs. Connally's face is somewhat obscured, and, of course, this is a blurry home movie we are watching.
She seems to turn towards JBC after Z-300.
Maybe Dallas Sheriff Seymour Weitzman and SS agent Kellerman were correct: The second two audible shots were in close sequence. They were both familiar with firearms, and seemed to lack any axes to grind.
Just IMHO.

I am just saying what the evidence says. Is JBC saying he was hit on the second shot a ”theory” or is that simply evidence? Is JBC turning right in response to the first shot a theory, or is it just evidence?
-

JBC was hit by the seconds shot. So was JFK. And it didn't take 48 frames for the bullet to pass from JFK's throat to JBC's back.
-
Nothing in the Z-file indicates either of the Connallys were looking at JFK when either the first or second shot was fired so how could either know which bullet struck him?
If: 1. the second shot was not as the shot pattern witnesses described the spacing, and 2. the 25 witnesses who reported JFK reacting to the first shot were wrong and JBC was hit by the second shot and 3. Altgens was wrong that his z255 photo was after the first shot. 4. Phil Willis was wrong that the first shot was just before z202 5. Nellie was wrong that she was looking at JFK and turned to look at JBC at the moment she heard the second shot and that she did not look at JFK after the second shot. etc.
Then: you could be right.
If ALL of those witnesses are not wrong, the zfilm does show that JBC was turned around and Nellie was looking at JFK when the second shot occurred and turned to look at JBC the moment she heard it and reached out and pulled him down to her lap.
JBC not being shot until Z295 doesn't remotely line up with anything in the Z-film.
I agree with that. There is no way that a shot from anywhere outside the car could have caused his chest wound at that point.

I can agree with that.
Nellie and Gayle Newman both described JBC as being turned to the right when hit. But what I did not realize until today in looking through some of the Commission Documents was that Connally's medical team also agreed that JBC was turned right when hit. In fact, a report prepared by ASAIC Warren in January 1964 following interviews with the doctors (labelled as CD 326 (https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=10727#relPageId=2)), states that they agreed that his "Torso turned to the right and nearly parallel with the flight of the projectile".
That would put the shot striking JBC sometime after z250.

He was turned to his right when hit, dummy. At or about Z222. Immediately after that he turned even more dramatically to his right.

Connally's medical team would not have been aware of the fact that the bullet that struck JBC in the back had first passed through JFK and yawed upon exit. That produced an elongated entry wound that the medical team could have easily misinterpreted as a tangential strike which would produce such an elongated wound. The problem with that explanation is such a wound would have to have been fired from a near perpendicular angle to limo, which would mean a shot from the west end of the TSBD.
-

We know that the bullet did not come from the west end of the TSBD. If the doctors were correct, that would mean that JBC was not hit at z225. It was not until about z250 that his torso was aligned so that a shot from the SN would have struck him with his torso nearly parallel to the flight of the bullet.
The doctors were just going by the wounds and path of the bullet through the body they observed and the fact that the wrist was turned back facing the bullet. That appears to be the basis for their agreement that the torso was turned right and was "nearly parallel with the flight of the bullet".
-

At the time the medical team looked at the wound, it was not known that the bullet had first hit JFK and yawed upon exiting. That wasn't known even by January when they were interviewed. The SBT had not yet been formulated. It is understandable that they would think the bullet made a tangential entry since that would be the more common reason for such an elongated wound.
-

A bit circular. I thought you were arguing that the bullet was yawing because of what the doctors saw, not what they may have gathered from talking to others. In any event, the concept that the torso was "nearly parallel with the flight of the bullet" must be based on the direction of the bullet not its orientation when it entered.
-
AM--
Thanks for posting that 1/28/64 memo from Forrest Sorrels.
The memo, citing expert surgeons, indicates Gov. JBC's torso was turned to his right, that is facing towards the Zapruder side of the street, when he was struck from behind the limo, by a slug that left a small round hole in the back of his assassination-day shirt (no yawing or tumbling indicated).
In fact, Gov. JBC is turned to his right, and his face is facing towards Zapruder, at ~Z-295.
Thereafter ~Z-295, JBC grimaces and his mouth gapes as if he is in serious agony, and he is pushed forwards, and then falls into his wife's lap, about the time JFK is hot. That all lines up with testimony by the Connallys.
IMHO, the 1/28/64 Sorrels memo affirms my take on the Z-film.
But hey, each to his own.
Caveat emptor, and draw your conclusions.

Either a tangential entry or a yawing bullet could produce an elongated entry wound. Since the medical team AT THE TIME would have had no reason to believe the bullet and struck someone or something before entering JBC's back, it is understandable why they would conclude the bullet made a tangential entry wound into JBC's back. That would indicate the bullet was traveling almost parallel to his back. The problem with that is a bullet entering at that angle would have continued on and exited from the left side of his torso. The other possibility would be if the bullet made a tangential entry going in the opposite direction which would require the shot to have been fired from the south side of Elm St. In any case, the ER doctors were simply wrong in concluding that the elongated wound was caused by a tangential strike. It was caused by a yawing bullet. No other explanation fits the available evidence.

No. The wound showed that the bullet entered on a downward trajectory. It was 1.5 cm in the longest dimension (the bullet is 3.0 cm long) and was drawn as an ellipse with its long axis in the vertical direction:

You are assuming that the bullet did not deflect. But it must have imparted significant momentum to JBC in order for the bullet to have made such an impact sensation in JBC's back. The only way that happens is if it changes direction suddenly.

That might be one of the dumbest things you've ever written.

Which part is dumb? The Shaw diagram or Newton’s laws?

Which part is dumb?
Which part is not?

Which part is not?
Interesting form of debate. I post a response in the form of Dr. Shaw’s drawing. I also post an explanation of why the evidence implies that the bullet changed direction upon hitting JBC in the fifth rib. You call the post dumb. I then ask which one is dumb. And your response asks me to explain which one isn’t dumb.

Seems like a perfectly reasonable question.

So Dr. Shaw’s diagram is so wrong as to justify calling it dumb?

Connally was hit with head shot fragments from K head shot. As C fell back he held his wrist up catching fragments from Head shot. He was directly down range from hidden gunman, who's location shows in Z-film. A perfect square shadow appears in bushes left of motorcade. About half way down the block wall just before the second set of blocks with holes through them.

LOL!
You really shouldn't take so much [fill in the blank].

Now we have the make believe version.
