Well seriously Ray, you chime in, late to the party, claiming that the symbol being discussed cannot be an inverted caret because it has a horizontal cross bar, all while not even looking at the correct image.

As for what I believe Hosty meant...

Hosty's use of the inverted caret symbol makes the note actually read:

"day before yesterday
Mr Truly 2 others had
rifle
1st floor outside
office"
