Yep, those important curtain rods he just had to get and couldn't wait for the weekend. Lots of questions like this come to mind. E.g., why weren't they still in that bag? The one that had his prints on it, that was found near the nest? Where did they go? Wouldn't he have stored that bag in the domino room? Where the workers kept things? His other jacket was left there. And the bag itself? Nobody makes a bag like that for some flimsy rods. The entire "curtain rods" story is preposterous. I think even he realized it when he reportedly denied taking any with him. The bag had his lunch (although Frazier said he told him he wasn't bringing one with him that morning).

It's pretty simple: Had Ruby not killed him he would have had to face all of these questions and more and his answers would have revealed his guilt. Although I imagine we'd have the MK-Ultra defense like some do for Sirhan. He was hypno-programmed sort of response.

Perhaps not on it's own but that's not the point. It's the accumulation of evidence.

Oswald makes a special trip to Irving mid week and takes a long package to work.
Oswald leaves all his money with Marina and symbolically leaves his wedding ring in her family's cup.
Oswald tells Frazier the package contained curtain rods, Oswald says while being interrogated that he only brought his lunch.
Knowing the package is too big to place on his lap, Oswald places it on the back seat where Frazier sees it, but tells the Police he carried his lunch with him up front.
An empty long package is found with Oswald's prints in the sniper's nest.
Nobody says that Oswald is seen with a long package at any time after Oswald leaves work.
