Security expert shuts down Trump's claim Milley committed 'treason' in just four words

A top national security attorney is pushing back against Donald Trump's false claim that Gen. Mark Milley, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff committed "treason."

The Washington Post on Tuesday published bombshell excerpts of the latest book by Watergate journalist Bob Woodward and Washington Post reporter Roberta Costa. One of those excerpts claims Gen. Milley called China and secretly spoke with his counterpart because he was terrified then-President Trump might launch an attack. Milley called Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People's Liberation Army twice, according to the new book, "Peril."

"One call took place on Oct. 30, 2020, four days before the election that unseated President Donald Trump, and the other on Jan. 8, 2021, two days after the Capitol siege carried out by his supporters in a quest to cancel the vote," The Post reports.

“General Li, I want to assure you that the American government is stable and everything is going to be okay," Milley told him. “We are not going to attack or conduct any kinetic operations against you."

Milley reportedly told Li he would give him a heads up in case Trump ordered an attack.

“General Li, you and I have known each other for now five years. If we're going to attack, I'm going to call you ahead of time. It's not going to be a surprise," Gen. Milley told Li in the first call.

After the January 6 insurrection, Milley again called Li.

“We are 100 percent steady. Everything's fine. But democracy can be sloppy sometimes."

On Tuesday evening Trump called in to the far right wing cable channel Newsmax and declared Milley's actions were "treason."

Brad Moss, a top national security attorney, shut down Trump's claim in just four words:

No. It is not.

Paul Ryan did extensive research on psychological disorders to learn how to deal with Trump: Bob Woodward

New reporting from Bob Woodward and Robert Costa reveals that former House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) did extensive research on psychological disorders in preparation for dealing with former President Donald Trump.

Business Insider, which has obtained a copy of Woodward and Costa's new book "Peril," reports that the authors claim Ryan was surprised to see Trump win the 2016 presidential election, after which he realized that he would soon have to figure out how to have a productive relationship with the incoming president.

A New York-based Republican donor who also happens to be a doctor reached out to Ryan and warned him that he would "need to understand what narcissistic personality disorder is."

Ryan was initially surprised that the doctor was saying the incoming president suffered from a psychological disorder, but the doctor sent him more information about the condition, including an email with "thoughts on how to best deal with a person with anti-social personality disorder."

Ryan subsequently did more research of his own and grew more convinced that Trump really was a pathological narcissist.

This was illustrated in a different passage of Woodward and Costa's book in which Trump could not understand why he should bother denouncing neo-Nazis who rallied in Charlottesville on the grounds that "these people love me."

If there is a single person in the world who actually thinks Trump was planning to attack China, they need mental health care.  Trump is the only modern president not to get the US involved in any foreign conflict.  If there were any doubt about Trump's intention, we know with certainty this is a false premise.  How?  Because it never happened unless we attacked China and no one reported it.  This is the single dumbest fake Trump story in a long line of fake stories.  If Milley colluded with China to undermine the democratically elected President and circumvent the authority of the President, he committed treason.  As Rubio pointed out, what would be the reaction if a military figure decide unilaterally that Biden was senile and therefore he would not follow the orders of the President?  That is absurd.  I'm no supporter of Whispering Joe but he is the commander and chief.  Any general that does not obey his orders is committing treason.

Richard calls documented evidence "fake". Hilarious!

This is a scam that Republicans always pull. Whatever they don't like they will call "fake" as an attempt to discredit it. Really pathetic.

So, I guess Richard would rather have had a mentally ill lunatic start a nuclear holocaust instead of an American hero General preventing it from happening? At which point Richard will you say "enough is enough" and quit defending this insane lunatic? Is nuclear war not enough for you? What will it take?

The fact is the Trump administration was in dereliction of duty of not invoking the 25th Amendment to remove a psychotic lunatic from power. Gen. Milley did the next best thing and saved America and the world. He also has the overwhelming majority of Americans and the entire world behind him.

There is documented evidence that Trump intended to start a war with China?  How about directing us to this "evidence"?  Did the US, for example, attack China under the Trump administration?  That is another laughable baseless anti-Trump story that highlights your political bias but tell us if you think the military should be able to make unilateral decisions as to whether to obey the president instead of posting reams of cut and paste nonsense?  Could Milley, for example, conclude that Biden is senile and therefore he doesn't have to follow his commands?  Or is that an entirely different situation due to your political bias?  Dems used to be understandably concerned with the military usurping the role of the democratically elected civilian authorities but I guess that depends on who is in power.

Same old narrative that the right uses all the time. Deny, deny, deny, and replace with another narrative that fits their agenda.

Georgia's ongoing criminal Trump investigation could soon get a big boost from Congress

Criminal investigators in Georgia are quietly moving forward with their probe into former president Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election results — including the infamous phone call in which he urged the secretary of state to "find" the votes necessary for him to win the state.

"Investigators are plowing ahead as Trump continues to weigh his political future and wade into Peach State politics with a Georgia rally set for late September," CNN reported Friday.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who is heading up the investigation, may soon get a big boost from the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection, which could provide a "mountain of documents" and help her "avoid lengthy court fights."

What I can tell you is that the Trump investigation is ongoing," Willis told CNN this week. "As a district attorney, I do not have the right to look the other way on any crime that may have happened in my jurisdiction. We have a team of lawyers that is dedicated to that, but my No. 1 priority is to make sure that we keep violent offenders off the street."

Willlis' office reportedly has been struggling to juggle the Trump probe with a backlog of other cases and rising crime in Atlanta. "I'm here begging you for help. I'm drowning," Willis told Fulton County commissioners this week.

"While the investigation appears to still be in its "early stages," sources familiar with it told CNN Willis' office has "obtained documents from the Georgia Secretary of State's office and interviewed a handful of its staff, spoken to other Georgia election officials about how elections are conducted and initiated conversations with congressional committees."

Willis broke into a smile this week when asked whether she hopes to reach a formal cooperation agreement with congressional investigators. "Oh, I hope so," she said. "It is certainly information that my office needs to see."

The district attorney kicked off her investigation "with a splash" in February when she sent letters asking Georgia officials to preserve documents, just a month after taking office. According to the letters, potential charges in the case include "solicitation of election fraud, the making of false statements to state and local governmental bodies, conspiracy, racketeering, violation of oath of office and any involvement in violence or threats related to the election's administration."

Naturally, Willis is facing political pressure to rush her investigation, but CNN reported that it's likely to stretch into next year, and she is playing it by the book.

"I know that people find that case to be interesting because it was a former sitting president. And that has some historic value. For me, it's not interesting," Willis said recently. "We will put the facts that are learned -- literally, cause I'm old school -- up on a wall, what those facts are. We will put the statutes that we believe those facts could or could not touch. We will see if the elements of a crime are met. If they are, I will present a case to the grand jury. If they're not, then we won't do it."
