Why would the avowed Marxist commie Oswald want to kill a commie libtard JFK? Seems kind of counterproductive unless Oswald really thought JFK was an America 1st type president. Maybe Oswald was suffering from Kennedy Derangement Syndrome LOL.
JFK was anything but a libtard. In fact, he was the most conservative of the prominent candidates seeking the Democrat nomination for President in 1960. JFK was a friend and an ally of Nixon going back to their days as freshmen congressmen following their elections in 1946. JFK contributed $1000 to Nixon's Senate campaign in 1950. The Kennedys were close allies of Joe McCarthy even though they were from opposing parties. RFK was counsel on McCarthy's committee and McCarthy was godfather to RFK's first child. McCarthy even dated one the Kennedy sisters.
The liberal wing of the Democrat Party wanted anyone but Kennedy to lead the ticket. Truman was against him. Eleanor Roosevelt was so adamantly opposed to him that she refused to endorse him after he won the nomination, and only did so reluctantly late in the general election campaign. At first Humphrey opposed JFK in the primaries which back then only chose delegates in a few states. When Humphrey flamed out, the liberal wing turned to Stuart Symington as their hopeful. Some even wanted to give Adlai Stevenson a third bite of the apple. At the convention, the liberals were hoping LBJ and the southern Democrats could prevent JFK from getting a first ballot nomination and they could broker the convention to put a liberal at the top of the ticket. In the end all these efforts failed, much to the chagrin of the liberals.
