State govs. Pass criminal codes, court policies. Funding of courts, state police, marijuans penalties, etc.

BTW, Massachusetts 2nd safest state,
Boston pop.  700,000 2025 murders = 24

Louisiana 49th safest state
Shreveport, LA pop. 200,000  2025 murders = 29

https://www.prisonpolicy.org/profiles/LA.html
Incarceration per 100,000 pop.
Massachusetts 241
Louisiana 1067

Is it worth considering the demographics of Boston and Shreveport? Or is that out of bounds?

Hey, Tim, no, not out of bounds. I understand your point, I'm comparing apples and oranges to a possibly unreasonable extrent. OTOH, ChatGPT informs us the average net worth of Boston black households is $8,000 compared to $247,500 for white households.

My point is to show how extreme Richard's POV is.

Total population figures are both genders combined.

Another angle.....females incarcerated in Idaho, 1,470, total population, 2 million.  Wallethub safety ranking #19
Males incarcerated in Idaho, 9200, total population, 2 million.

Arkansas population 3,000,000 State and local combined imprisoned 23,850, including 1,650 females, safety ranking #46

females incarcerated in Massachusetts, 700, total population, 7 million.  Wallethub states safety ranking #2
Males incarcerated in Massachusetts, 5300, total population, 7 million.

Only Floridas, Arkansas and Georgia actively execute :

Illinois population 12,700,000 Total incarcerated, 30,000 including federal prisoners State Wallethub safety ranking #38
New York population 20,200,000 Total incarcerated, 41,000 does not include federal prisoners  safety ranking #20
Florida population 23,400,000  Total incarcerated 143,500 does not include federal prisoners  safety ranking #47
Georgia population 10,700,000 Total incarcerated state prisons 50,400, total local state and federal 105,000 safety ranking #41

People are fleeing the liberal hellscapes for red states.  All the deflections in the world don't change the obvious conclusion that they are doing so due to the failed leftist policies that have made those places unlivable for law abiding American citizens.  The only people who are staying are the homeless, illegal aliens, and criminals.

Crime rates are just one reason for the migration. Tax burdens, overregulation, quality of life, etc. all play a part. Blue cities which allow massive homeless populations literally living in tent cities on the sidewalks create all kinds of hazards for people who just want to be able to go from place to place. Lack of enforcement for petty theft forces businesses to close their doors. Our cities have been in a downward spiral for a generation which is why I moved to rural Ohio when I retired. Columbus, OH where I lived and worked for 35 years hasn't seen the extremes that other big cities have, but I still see a decline from when I lived there.

well using a shopping cart for your ‘petty theft’ doesn’t help matters, either.

IOW, the "beatings" (other worldly incarceration rate and counter productive executions) will continue as far as states with Republican controlled state governments are concerned until they run out of money building each ding new prison beds at $300,000, or until the morale improves!
