John Bolton says Trump's use of burner phones was 'deliberate'



National Security Adviser John Bolton spoke to CNN on Thursday morning to give further information about his claim that Donald Trump was lying when he said he didn't know what a "burner phone" was.

Bolton reiterated a Tuesday comment that he heard the ex-president use the words "burner phones a number of times... It was a term he kind of liked. He would say, 'they have these burner phones.' The former president's acquaintance with the truth is often very casual. This is a good example of it."

He went on to say that he wasn't sure if Trump used one specifically because he so frequently "didn't come down to the Oval Office until late in the morning." Bolton said Trump would make his calls from the Residents.

"I certainly spoke to him up there many times on regular phones, on the secure phones or regular landline," said Bolton. "What else he was doing up there, I certainly don't know.

He went even further, saying that if there were no call logs between those hours then it was a "deliberate" move because he knows people who spoke to Trump during that time. Previous reports from Rolling Stone said that Jan. 6 rally organizer Kylie Kremer directed Trump aides to use burner phones, including Lara Trump, Eric Trump, campaign aide Katrina Pierson, and chief of staff Mark Meadows. Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen told Raw Story this week that he knows at least one person who was tasked with buying three burner phones from CVS prior to Jan. 6 to use in the efforts that day. Eric Trump threatened to sue after that report.

"Well, I think it's very hard to believe that anybody redid the log to purge information from it," said Bolton. "These are routinely made, that is not subject to high-level scrutiny. So, if there was interference with it, it would be great extraordinary. I think it means the former president made a deliberate effort not to use Oval Office phones or government phones during that period. I don't know how else to explain it. We know from what others said, he did have phone conversations with them that day that are not outside the gap period."

CNN's Brianna Keilar asked to confirm that Bolton believed Trump was intentionally not using the Oval Office phone or Residence phone the way he frequently did.

"I don't know what other explanation would make any sense, frankly," said Bolton. When asked why, he said, frankly, "because he didn't want a record of the calls. And what he was saying in those calls is anybody's guess. Some people say they have received calls, they have described what the subject of the conversation was. So we know he was making calls. What other calls he made. At this point, we don't know."

'Powerfully intentional': Analysis sheds light on the real reason for Trump’s 7-hour phone records gap



Former President Donald Trump is facing intense scrutiny amid the latest developments surrounding his alleged use of a burner phone as chaos erupted at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

New reports are shedding light on the timeline included in the documents released by the U.S. National Archives which suggest there was a seven-hour gap in official notations. In short, Trump had no phone activity during this time. With the former president's history of using other communication devices, there is speculation he may have used a burner phone to conceal his unfavorable behavior while the insurrection was underway.

Now, The Atlantic's David Frum is dissecting the timeline in an effort to determine what Trump may be hiding. According to Frum, the former president's actions were intentional. "Trump’s phone choices were powerfully intentional. What was he intending on January 6? The answer is obvious: concealment. But concealment of what?"

Frum went on to break down the seemingly calculated nature of Trump's actions throughout that entire day.

"Trump’s actions that day were not secret," he wrote. "They all happened in full public view. He incited a crowd to attack Congress in order to overturn by violence his election defeat. He refused to act to protect Congress and the Constitution when the attack began, and for a long time afterward. When he finally did act, he did so ineffectively: a tweet at 2:38 p.m. faintly suggesting that the crowd be more peaceful, another at 3:13 saying so more emphatically—all following a tweet at 2:24 p.m. once again condemning Pence for not indulging the fantasy that his vice president could overturn the election for him."

Noting Trump's history of using different phone lines, Frum wrote, "As president, Trump often avoided using official lines. He used multiple phones of his own. He borrowed phones from other people."

Frum went on to further explain why Trump's phone usage was no random act. "Trump did not grab phones at random," Frum wrote. "He thought tactically about which phone to use. When the Stormy Daniels story broke, in 2018, Trump tried to place a call to Melania Trump on one of his own phones. She recognized the number and refused to answer the call. So Trump borrowed a phone from a Secret Service agent whose number would not be recognized. The first lady picked up."

The writer also noted:

"The world does not know everything about January 6—not yet, anyway—and Trump’s phone behavior may suggest the answer to the most important remaining questions:

Did Trump in any way authorize the attack in advance?

Did Trump in any way communicate or coordinate with the attackers as the attack unfolded?
Frum added, "Trump’s phone choices sought to conceal the answers to those questions."

He concluded, "Trump’s 7.5-hour gap likewise suggests consciousness of something. And it sure smells like guilt."

New reports suggest a 'significant shift' in DOJ's willingness to go after Trump: former federal prosecutor



Former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti on Thursday suggested that there are new indications that the United States Department of Justice is going to start focusing its investigations on former President Donald Trump.

In a lengthy Twitter thread, Mariotti pointed to new reports suggesting the DOJ has started probing a "a higher level of rally planning" for the January 6th Stop the Steal event, rather than just investigating the rallygoers who violently stormed the Capitol afterward.

Mariotti then speculated that the reason the DOJ is picking up the pace may have to do with Judge David Carter's conclusion earlier this week that it is "more likely than not" that Trump and attorney John Eastman committed crimes in their efforts to block the certification of the 2020 election.

"Judge Carter's opinion might have given DOJ comfort that the effort to get Pence to overturn the election was obstruction of Congress and a conspiracy to defraud the U.S.," he wrote.

Mariotti then speculated that the DOJ in the future was likely to indict the slate of fake electors that were set up to step in and switch their states' votes to Trump despite the fact that they were certified as being won by President Joe Biden.

"Obviously there's a *lot* we don't know, and what prosecutors end up doing depends a lot on the evidence that they uncover," he concluded. "But this report suggests that there has been a significant shift in DOJ's focus. Whether we see more will tell us how significant this shift is."

He mainly placed calls through the switchboard when he was in the residence but rarely used it when he was in the Oval Office. The fact the log does not show calls on January 6, 2021, from the Oval Office is not unusual, said the sources, because Trump typically had staff either place calls directly for him on landlines or cell phones. Those calls would not be noted on the switchboard log.

The six pages of White House switchboard logs for January 6, 2021, are complete based on an official review of White House records, according to a source familiar with the matter. There are no missing pages and the seven-hour gap is likely explained by use of White House landlines, White House cell phones and personal cell phones that do not go through the switchboard.

According to a "Trump source "....so pathetic. Of course they are going to cover up for this criminal.

CNN has gone downhill with their garbage reporting. A reason why they have low ratings. We will see how long it takes for them to retract this nonsense.   

The fact is, calls were placed and there is an unexplained 7 hour gap. Criminal Donald refused to call off the insurrection when his own people and Faux News hacks were telling him to. He refused to send in the National Guard to stop it.

And there was absolutely no reason to have this hate rally on 1/6 which Criminal Donald incited an insurrection with his henchmen. There was also no reason for his MAGA thugs to be there to storm the Capitol.

Criminal Donald lost the election in a blowout to Joe Biden and it was not "stolen". That was an absolute lie and Donnie and his henchmen used that lie as an attempted coup to illegally seize power. That's treason and all of them will be in prison when it's all said and done.           

Btw, the January 6th Committee is in possession of this incriminating text message stating Criminal Donald was a "participant" in the coup. How do you like them apples?
