This scumbag will be headed to prison and Seditious Donald's bogus pardon won't help him because his new crime happened well after December 24th. Roger Stone doesn't have Seditious Donald to help him anymore.

Quote
Congress Still Has One More Way to Ban Trump from Future Office

It seems likely that despite abundant evidence Donald Trump provoked the deadly mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, the Senate will vote to acquit the former president of the charge of incitement of insurrection. And with acquittal goes the opportunity to punish Trump by barring him from holding future office.

There’s been talk of using a censure resolution as a fallback compromise. But as Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) said this week, there’s not enough support on either side for that option. Democrats want “impeachment or nothing,” he explained, and Republicans “don’t want to bar Trump from running for office.”

But if the Democrats’ ultimate goal is to keep Trump from ever appearing on a presidential ballot again, there is still one avenue open to them. . . .

No. I don’t think it is the Democrats’ ultimate goal to keep Trump from running again. They want him to run in 2024. To win enough primaries to win the Republican nomination. And to get heavily clobbered in November.

Trump never won with only the support of rabid fans. In November 70% of this voters were rabid fans, but 30% were more traditional Republicans. I believe he has lost most of those 30% permanently. This is why the two Republican Senate candidates lost on January 5 in Georgia. And that was before the January 6 assault on Congress.

I doubt Trump will be convicted of anything. Clearly, he broke the law with his recorded phone call to the Georgia Secretary of State. But all he needs is one true Trump supporter to get a hung jury. Any juror who prevents Trump from being convicted is set for life. They will get their 15 minutes of fame; employment opportunities will open up, etc. The fix is already in. I doubt he will be convicted.

So, I am pretty sure Trump will run in 2024. And breeze through the primaries. Seventy per cent of the Republican voters is more than enough to do that. But only getting 35 to 40 per cent of the votes in November will cause him to lose heavily. And I think the Republicans will also do very poorly in the House and Senate and likely in the state legislatures as will, with a historical level of defeat. I don’t want to vote for a candidate who I believe may throw out the popular vote for President.

Super Bowl parties a non-starter as COVID-19 surge continues

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/super-bowl-parties-a-non-starter-as-covid-19-surge-continues/ar-BB1drNt4?ocid=msedgntp

Halloween, NBA Championship games, Thanksgiving, all these events that last just a few hours, have had a huge effect on the virus in California. Christmas, not quite so much because the hospitals were filling up and people started to get concerned. But now, the Superbowl and be as bad as any of the previous events. A few hours can double the number of people getting the virus and the effects will be seen within two weeks.

Cancel any Superbowl party you are hosting. Bail out of any Superbowl party you were planning on going to. Just watch it at home with family. That is no problem.

The Johnson and Johnson vaccine seems to be close. Likely to start in March. We are very close. Even without this vaccine, the two we have should protect the most vulnerable in the next two months. But we have to get through this next month.

We could lose an extra 50,000 lives, half the number who attend in person a typical Superbowl, if millions insist on watching it in large groups on TV. Thousands who could have received immunity in February or March will die instead. There are many other Superbowl in the coming years.

Thx. I watched. Fascinating. And horrifying.
Marcy at emptywheel.net. also shared.

Also, stay home. Alone, everyone, and watch the Super Bowl. You can call and or zoom your friends.  Or, not. And more will get sick, and maybe die.
Its no big sacrifice.

Agreed. Excellent analysis. Straight from the fascist handbook. I have asked this before of Joe and had no reply but I will ask again. How much of the disintegration of the Republican Party today originated with Nixon? His cynical adoption of the Southern Strategy and then loss of people’s confidence in government following revelations of Watergate, pentagon papers, Vietnam withdrawal and eventually Rockefeller, Pike, Church and Schwieker Commities.

Did this not eventually lay the groundwork for exploitation by Trump to capture the Republicans with his simplistic rhetoric? Look out for the "enemy" and don’t trust "the swamp".
