In Texas [where I live] a lawsuit [that does not involve punitive damages] means very little. The plaintiff can just say 'OK try and collect'. They cannot take your home ..they can't even take away your fishing pole.
Now if there is actual physical injury [punitive] that's another thing.
If I go online and say that Doctor Jones is a quack. Can Jones sue me? Or do I have a first amendment right to post that Jones is a quack?
Truth is a defense to a defamation suit. This means that if the person being accused of defamation can prove that the statement he or she made is true, then the suit will be dismissed. There is no law against making truthful statements online, unless the action qualifies as an invasion of privacy.
