Bolden testified before the Luna Committee last Tuesday. He mentioned the supposed plot in early November 1963 in Chicago. Once again his story is different from other versions of the story he has told in the past. As I have continually written, there is not one piece of corroborating evidence of a plot in Chicago. Abraham Bolden's Latest Version of the Chicago Plot

Bolden testified before the Luna Committee last Tuesday. He mentioned the supposed plot in early November 1963 in Chicago. Once again his story is different from other versions of the story he has told in the past. As I have continually written, there is not one piece of corroborating evidence of a plot in Chicago. Not one witness, not one document, nothing.

People who read the other side of the story are going to wonder how anyone could say there is "not one piece of corroborating evidence of a plot in Chicago." There is plenty of evidence when reasonable rules of analysis are followed. Part of the problem with your dismissal is that you apply unreasonable, draconian criteria to pro-conspiracy evidence and witnesses but apply very different and far laxer criteria to pro-conspiracy evidence and witnesses. You view the slightest variation in accounts as proof of fraud if the accounts favor conspiracy, but you apply no such standard to pro-conspiracy accounts.

What you are saying is that Abraham Bolden simply fabricated the whole story. Why would he have done this? He had sterling reputation and a stainless record until he was framed after the assassination. Accusing Bolden of outright fabrication requires that you explain why the SS and the DOJ framed him soon after the assassination. No objective reader who examines the facts that we now know about Bolden's prosecution can deny that he was framed and abused.

Secret Service investigators followed two leads relating to the Chicago plot:

-- On Thursday 31 October, a landlady telephoned the Chicago police, telling them that she had discovered four rifles in one of her rooms which was rented to a group of four men. The police informed the Secret Service, who took two of the four men into custody the next day. There are no records of any weapons having been discovered. The two men were interrogated, but insisted they were not part of a conspiracy to murder JFK.

-- An unknown source accused Thomas Arthur Vallee of threatening to assassinate JFK. Although Vallee was not associated with the two men in custody, he appeared to be a right–wing extremist and he certainly owned several guns and a large quantity of ammunition. At about 9 o’clock on Sat. morning, two hours before Kennedy was due to land at O’Hare, Vallee was stopped by the police on the pretext of having committed a minor driving offence, and was arrested. Vallee reportedly asked for a day off on the day scheduled for JFK's Chicago visit.

Also, the HSCA was unable to determine why JFK's Chicago trip was suddenly cancelled. Why was JFK's Chicago visit suddenly cancelled? Bolden's account is a plausible explanation for why the Chicago trip was suddenly called off.

As Fred points out in the links that conspiracists apparently don't read, JFK cancelled the trip to Chicago on November 2 because the coup in South Vietnam was taking place (it began the day before). JFK held a series of emergency crisis meetings with his top people over those days as they tried to keep up and manage the crisis. Thus the need to cancel the trip.

See historian Richard Reeve's brief account below about the November 2 meeting. The cable Reeves refers to is about the report that Diem and his brother had been killed. As you can see, JFK had his key and top people attending the meeting. McNamara, Rusk et al. There was a fear that, among other things, the coup would fail and South Vietnam would be lost. 

As to this supposed Chicago plot: What is the evidence that anyone was arrested for the plot? Threatening the President is, of course, a crime. And plotting to murder him is another crime. Yet not one single person was charged with these crimes, these threats, this plot. So what happened to these supposed plotters who were arrested? They let them go?

Humm, it's odd, then, that the HSCA was unable to determine why the Chicago trip was cancelled. The HSCA said the following on this:

The committee was unable to determine specifically why the President's trip to Chicago, scheduled for November 2, was canceled. The possibilities range from the condition of his health(46) to concern for the situation in South Vietnam following the assassination of President Diem (47) to the threat received on October 30.(48) On that date, the Secret Service learned that an individual named Thomas Arthur Vallee, a Chicago resident who was outspokenly opposed to President Kennedy's foreign policy, was in possession of several weapons.(49) Further, Vallee's landlady reported that he had requested time off from his job on November 2.(50) Vallee was subsequently interviewed, surveilled and eventually arrested by the Chicago police, who found an M-1 rifle, a handgun and 3,000 rounds of ammunition in his automobile. (51) Vallee was released from custody on the evening of November 2. (52)
