Here is the detail  on the bothun scan I have been looking at.  I don't know if better scans are available.

If that's the same person in Betzner/Bronson, perhaps their role had something to do with operational area security in keeping people out.

I have no better copy either John.

I can't agree that this person is holding a weapon. The detail of this picture doesn't allow a conclusion on this to me. I can't see any of Hunt's character in this black shape at all.
But finnally this person's behavior is very strange to me. He did what nobody did. Walked or runned away from the location a person shot from.

Martin

I agree with you Martin on all points. No reasonable conclusion can be reached on this mysterious figure as to his character...or if he was carrying a weapon. His behavior on the other hand and peculiar retreat from the crime scene area is very suspicious to say the very least.

THIS IS MY BEST COPY. I WANTED TO POST IT HERE BECAUSE I FEEL IT IS BETTER THAN WHAT JOHN ORIGINALLY POSTED. I HOPE YOU DON'T MIND.

By the way, and very speculative, if he was cary a weapon, he would have take care nobody could see his piece from any point of view.
Inside the mantle for instance.

I believe he played a role. Maybe just to to distract.

Maybe it's E H Hunt serving as some protection or escort role?

The hat band matches up.
The hand more resembles a .45 than a fireball.

Just trying to sort out what I see.

John I still trying to get the picture better. Is this the best picture (resolution)? BR. Paul.

John find also this picture I think Betzner or Bronson.

That angle of view is Bronson.

From what I have access to in a scan, I can make out the sleeve and the wrist.  Something appears to be breaking up the daylight between the index finger and coat but I just can't say what it is.  The index finger appears extended to me.  Whether or not he is carrying a firearm in his right hand, his presence to me is highly unlikely to be benign.  As for hats, it's hard to say.  People can be individualistic and cheap making it possible that the hat resurfaces elsewhere.  But it does look like the same style of band as Hunt.  And perhaps he (Hunt) could say to himself, "this is the hat I wore that day."

Martin, I agree with you. Impossible to tell even the gender of the person. But it is odd indeed to see a person appearing to walk *away* from the scene at this moment.

I don't think that Shadowman is a mystery figure.

I think that the Shadowman character seen in the Bothun photograph is almost certainly the figure of Abraham Zapruder

Zapruder is seen just a few seconds earlier in a Harry Cabluck photograph and is walikng a path that would take him to the exact Shadowman location.

I have created a quick animated Cabluck Zaporuder walking to the Bothun Shadowman position animated illustration to show my point. ( Not to scale )
