The case was "cracked" 12 hours after Oswald killed JFK. That's when the DPD formally charged him with JFK's murder. They had already charged him with killing Tippit a few hours earlier.
Everything that has been learned since and all the advances in the forensic sciences has only served to make that case stronger. There is no rational explanation of the JFKA that doesn't have Oswald as the man who fired the shots at JFK and who later killed Tippit.
