The Secret Service and the FBI reconstructed Oswald's steps (with the help of Cecil McWatters and William Whaley) in an attempt to determine the absolute earliest that Oswald could have reached the rooming house.

Based on McWatters' statement of where it was that Oswald boarded the bus (we know Oswald boarded that bus because he had McWatters' specific bus transfer and McWatters said he issued that transfer to only one woman and only one man), Oswald walked about seven blocks east (into the downtown area) after he left the Depository within three minutes of the shooting.

"So I gave her a transfer and opened the door and she was going out the gentleman I had picked up about two blocks (back) asked for a transfer and got off at the same place in the middle of the block where the lady did.  It was the intersection near Lamar Street, it was near Poydras and Lamar Street." -- Cecil McWatters

They concluded, based on what McWatters told them (along with the Secret Service agents and FBI agents walking the route in an average time of six and a half minutes), that Oswald boarded the bus around 12:40 near the intersection of Field St. and Elm St. and then, after being on the bus for no more than four minutes, Oswald got off the bus near Lamar St. and Elm St. (asking for the transfer as he got off the bus).

So now we have Oswald leaving the bus around 12:44.

Oswald then walked three to four short blocks to the Greyhound station where he boarded Whaley's cab.  This has Oswald entering the cab around 12:48.
They then, with Whaley, reconstructed the cab ride from the Greyhound to the intersection of Beckley and Neely (Oswald got out of the cab on Beckley just north of the intersection with Neely).  They concluded (using a stopwatch) that the cab ride took five minutes and thirty seconds.

So now we have Oswald exiting Whaley's cab on Beckley at 12:53-12:54.

Still using the stopwatch, they concluded that it was a five minute and forty-five second walk from the point Oswald exited the cab back to the rooming house.

I think Oswald got to the rooming house between 12:58 and 1:00 and was back in his room just long enough to grab a jacket before hurrying out the door, zipping up a jacket as he went out the door.

You could very well be correct, as Earlene Roberts said he came in as she was trying to get the TV to work, so she could watch the 1:00 news.

However, she also said that after he left the house she saw him standing at the bus stop in front of the house. So, now the question is; how long did he stay there?

ok while i have zero desire to step on a mans grave , this is a Gary mack recreation so the readers viewing should be advised firstly (if they do not already know ) that the late mr mack was not shall we say above a little deception in these cases .

for example Gary mack has his oswald double merely get set and walk away from the rooming house . but that IS NOT what Earlene roberts stated that Oswald did . also it seems clear that he has Oswald leaving at 1pm , when he had barely arrived home . Oswald according to his landlady could have stayed 3 to 4 minutes in his room . while he was in his room she saw a police car pull up outside . and he changed his slacks and shirt . so time passed while he was in his room . AFTER he left Roberts goes to the window and saw Oswald STILL standing out there at the bus stop .

naturally LN want to get Oswald home as early as they can to get him away as early as they can , and they very often omit to mention that he was still there standing at the bus stop outside the rooming house . Roberts left the window with Oswald STILL standing out there .we cant say how long he was standing there after Roberts left the window but we can say that he did stand out there .of course LN do like to call witnesses they dont care for liars . in that sense Roberts so far as i have seen has been no exception .

every incident that happened must be accounted for time wise . for example the elderly lady approaching Whalleys cab and asking for the cab , Oswald motioning to get out to give the old lady the cab , and Whalley talking to her explaining that she can take the next cab . by the way Oswald motioning to get out of the cab is a strange thing for a HURRIED DESPERATE ASSASSIN to do . we can say that Oswald arrived at 1pm or very very close to it , we can say that because we have a witnesses working on her tv to get the news . however LN have Oswald starting his journey leaving the depository after 3 minutes via the front door . and i am sorry that is bunkum because it is based on a reporter being told later that he may have spoken to Oswald . and not one single witness at the time outside the building door said they saw Oswald .Frasier all be it years later said he saw Oswald crossing houston street wearing a jacket having left via the rear of the building some 5 to 10 minutes after the shots  . whether we believe him or not he is the only witness to say they saw Oswald  leave dealey .

even if we agree that Oswald arrived home at 12.59 we have to have him leaving his room at 1.02 or 1.03 . then we have to factor in that he was seen standing outside at the bus stop . and that he was still there after Roberts left the window .as the above video shows it takes over 16 minutes to walk the official route . Mack had the oswald double leave immediately at 1pm and even he had to admit the math was no good .i have oswald still at the bus stop at probably 1.03 if not later , so if Oswald couldnt do it using his deceptive time scale Oswald certainly did not have enough time if he left even later . so he was left with having to walk a different route that the Commission never concluded in the hopes of getting Oswald there even quicker .but even at that if we allow for the time Oswald was in his room and stood at the bus stop Mack still has problems .
