Olof Palme: Who killed Sweden's prime minister?

On a Friday night more than thirty years ago, Sweden's prime minister went to the movies.

Controversial and outspoken at home and abroad, Olof Palme was by then in his second term as leader of his country. But he still insisted on living as normal a life as he could, and - as on that night - he often dismissed his police protection.

Walking home just before midnight with his wife Lisbet, the prime minister was shot in the back at point blank range. He was dead before he hit the ground.

Likely perpetrator: Stig Engström aka Skandiamanden. Cleverly presented himself as a witness at the scene (but wasn't reported by other witnesses at the scene.)

Weapon: Not found, slugs too mutilated to match to a murder weapon but the condition of slugs implies a long barrelled weapon.

Conspiracy: Unlikely, based on Stig Engström's behavior repeatedly drawing attention to himself.

A summery of the 6/10 conference in English below. Speaking of disappointment, what was not covered at the press conference, which was almost entirely focused on Stig Engström, was the role of SÄPO (The Swedish Security Service) and their proven suppression of witness statements and leads which suggests that Olof Palme and his wife were under surveillance when they left their home that night. SÄPO had known extreme right wing officers forming a network connecting with other right wing Palme haters in the police force and The Swedish Armed Forces. 10 minutes into the video are some mind boggling numbers hinting at the extend of witness statements etc. collected.
