LHO - In his own words - free book download
« on: September 10, 2018, 02:57:49 PM »

Here's a link to a project from a few years ago. It's basically as close to a biography of Oswald as we can come, using his own words, and words attributed to him by those who knew them, presented in chronological order. Offering this as a resource to anyone who might be interested.

Mark: Did you consider including conversations/statements from the KGB intercepts/recordings of Oswald when he was in Minsk? The Belarus KGB has been reluctant to release them; and Yeltsin didn't include them in the files he gave to Clinton in 1992. But Mailer quotes from a number of them in his book on Oswald.

It's mostly small talk between Oswald and others, chiefly Marina.

It doesn't appear to me that you cited them; but I only quickly looked at things.

Steve, they're included.
Thanks. Yes, I found them at around page 64+.

Possible additional source : Thomas Mallon's "Mrs. Paine's Garage." That has a number of quotes from Ruth (and some from Michael) on conversations with Oswald and, because she spoke Russian, exchanges she overheard between Lee and Marina.

And thanks for the free download.

Everything is chronological to make events and conversations easier to locate.

There's no other way to compile this kind of material except to present it with a caveat. He said this, he suggested that, etc. I'm sure there are purported conversations I missed but my general rule was, if someone quoted him directly, that conversation went into the book. If it was twice or more removed, I left it out.

And in the case of lunatics like Judyth Vary Baker, I used none of her misfit imaginings.

As I added above, Thomas Mallon's "Mrs. Paine's Garage" has some exchanges between Ruth and Oswald. And also some of Ruth's remembrances of conversations that she overheard Lee and Marina having.

E.g., Oswald complained about the "bourgeois" lifestyle of the Paines. Ruth countered that if having a working washing machine (lots of dirty diapers to wash) was bourgeois then "count me in."
