Title: Police Car In The Alley? Nope.
Post by: Bill Brown on October 07, 2022, 09:01:12 PM
Domingo Benavides was tending to a broken down vehicle on Patton Avenue. To go to the auto parts store, he proceeded east in the alley behind Harris Bros. Motors (this alley ran parallel to Tenth Street and Jefferson Boulevard, halfway between the two). He took a left onto Denver and then a right onto Tenth, heading east on Tenth toward the auto parts store at Tenth and Marsalis.

Realizing he forgot the parts number, Benavides turned around in one of the driveways on Tenth and proceeded west on Tenth. He crossed through the intersection with Denver and was driving west on Tenth (back toward the broken down vehicle on Patton) when he came upon the scene.

Benavides drove his truck east in the alley and never made any mention of any police cars being in that alley. Those familiar with the tall-tales of supposed "researchers" will understand the significance of this. The bottom line is, there was no police car in that alley approximately ninety seconds before the Tippit shooting.

I know about this claim, but I have never paid much attention to it as it didn't seem a significant detail to me.

Who actually made this claim and for what purpose?

Are you really making the argument that someone not mentioning something equates to it not existing?

The alleged police car was not in the east-west alley that Benavides described. It was in the driveway between 404 and 410 Tenth Street that connected the east-west alley to Tenth street.

Mike Brownlow (supposed Dallas area "researcher") claims that Sam Guinyard told him (in 1970) that he saw a police car in the alley just after the Tippit shooting.

No Sir.

You're confusing the Brownlow-Holan claim for the Brownlow-Guinyard claim.

Brownlow claims that Guinyard told him he (Guinyard) saw a police car in the alley right after the shooting.

Also, the driveway did NOT connect the alley to Tenth Street; you're incorrect on this.

I still fail to understand the significance. Even if Guinyard did see a police car after the Tippit shooting, how is that significant?

Witnesses can misremember, especially over time, but even if Guinyard observation was correct, what is that supposed to mean?

So if Benavides didn’t mention a police car before the shooting and Guinyard mentioned one after the shooting, what does that tell us? Not much, it seems.

The implication is that there was a suspicious "police officer" (real or fake) on the scene before the police were known to have been there.

Kenneth Croy was the first officer to arrive (he was coming from downtown and heading through Oak Cliff on his way home after working the parade when he heard the report on the police radio).  Croy was there within roughly three minutes of the shooting.  There wasn't officially any police car in that alley at this early stage (if ever?).
