Title: Anyone Floored by the Second Dose of the Pfizer Vaccine?
Post by: Steve M. Galbraith on April 30, 2021, 06:53:36 PM
Man, I got my second dose yesterday and I am woozy and feverish and have a headache. No appetite. I had a similar but less strong reaction to the first; but this one has really hit me. I guess that's a good sign.

Hey Steve ... I only had my first shot the other day and I hope your symptoms doesn't happen to me when i take the second.  As for the first I was told my shoulder could hurt but nothing happened until 10 hours later when i went to bed.  Weird.  The next morning back to normal.

Hey Dan. Yeah, your arm will be sore - and yesterday for me the soreness went down or up a bit to my shoulder - but that goes away pretty quickly. Had that with both shots.

But ugh, I'm feverish and fatigued and achy. I had some of those symptoms - but much milder -after the first but they went away after a few hours. This dose is getting to me. I guess that's a good sign, that my immune system is responding.

The second shot supposedly helps greatly against the different variants or mutant strains. So we all need that booster shot.

Did you have Pfizer or Moderna?

Hey Steve .... I had the Phizer.   Like you said I hope the bad symptoms from the second shot means your system is fighting
the virus like Hell to prevent it from establishing  itself in your body.   Hope everything goes well with you.

I had the two Moderna shots. From an informal talk with friends, it appears the Moderna shots cause a bigger reaction than the Pfizer shots.

My first Moderna shot, not such a big deal. The arm felt a little sore. The second shot, a much sorer arm, if I moved it, chills and a fever up to 101.5 degrees. But the worst of it lasted only 3 hours. No big deal. And it was all over after 27 hours. A much lesser deal than even a mild case of COVID-19 itself.

Get the shot in your denominate arm. The more you move your arm, the more it will hurt (temporarily) but the sooner it will disperse the vaccine from the area causing the arm to not hurt anymore. No need to lift weights or anything. Just use your arm as normal and ignore the pain. Pain killers, even non-prescription, can, I understand, interfere with the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Lots of people are hoping that enough people will get the vaccine, they can skip taking it and get away with it. Too many people are hoping that. If you don’t take the vaccine, the virus will find you, sooner or later. Save yourself a lot of trouble and just take the two shots, or one of Johnson and Johnson.

Thanks. I'm back to normal. Definitely get that second shot even if I scared you or whoever may read this <g>. From what I've read it really helps against a number of the variants.

Good luck.

I think nearly everyone who had a negative reaction recovers within 24 hours. As I did.

It seems the problem now is with younger people, under 30 or so. Anyone with any health problems absolutely needs to get it immediately, regardless of age.

Those stories out of India are just terrible. The hopelessness is just awful.

You can expect to have significantly stronger reactions the second time around say the health authorities.
And I think its a sign that your immune system is getting the message, so-to-speak.
Well something like that, anyway.

I had the Moderna vax exactly 3 weeks ago today; have to wait until Aug 3 for my second stabbing.
Two days after that shot I had a wrenching gut ache that lasted a few hours.

Two days later and stomach ache? I don't recall reading that that was one of the side effects. And not 48 hours.

Second dose on August 3? August is three months away? Or did you mean June 3?

I just read that they think a booster shot will likely be needed this fall. At least for those greatest at risk of contracting it and for having major symptoms. Elderly, weakened immune systems, diabetics, et cetera.

Vaccine delivery has been late here and getting as many ppl that initial dose as quick as possible is first priority
There's talk that the 2nd dose will probably be available earlier.

Several of our local pharmacies have walk-in vaccinations available. No appointments needed. That began last Monday or so. Supply doesn't seem to be a problem other than for some isolated areas.

Fatigue and fever and headache? The second shot is supposedly worse; mine was. If so then you may have a tough stretch afterwards.

Yes. All those things plus nausea.

My wife experienced similar symptoms after her second Moderna shot.

In the coming months, people, particularly the ones who got the vaccine, are going to get sick of social distancing and wearing masks. People will wonder why they should make sacrifices for those who don’t do their part by getting vaccinated. I expect to see, before the summer is out:
1.   Not enough people vaccinated, because there are always going to be too many people who hope we have herd immunity and maybe they can get away with no vaccination.
2.   People lower their social distancing.
3.   The virus to rise sharply.

If this happens, it will mostly, but not entirely, affect the unvaccinated.

The side effects of the second shot pale in comparison to getting the virus. That could leave one sick for months, with possible permanent effects or even death. Getting the virus is inevitable. It will find you. Getting the vaccine is much the lesser of the two evils.

How different attitudes in the 1950’s helped Americas make better choices than in the 2020’s:

Can't Help Falling In Love With A Vaccine: How Polio Campaign Beat Vaccine Hesitancy

Where have you gone Elvis Presley, our nation turns its lonely eyes to you.

Yes, hiccups are inevitable. A major one, in 1955 with Cutter Laboratories. And a much more minor one in 2021, with very rare but deadly blood clots with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. In 1955, Americans made the rational choice. I hope enough do in 2021 but I am not confident.

The 1955 Cutter Laboratories was avoidable. A scientist working for Cutter Laboratory told higher ups that they had a major problem, and she sent them pictures of laboratory monkeys that had received the Cutter vaccine and clearly developed polio paralysis. But this warning was somehow ignored.

“And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.”

Never have these words been more important.

Ask not what your fellow country men can do for you, they can get vaccinated, they feel low for a day or two, but enough get vaccinated allowing the rest, including you, to skate by without a vaccination, and not having to do your part to solve this.

Instead, ask what you can do for your country. To make a very small sacrifice, to help protect yourself and your fellow Americans, including those who don’t do their part. And by some miracle, maybe, enough Americas get vaccinated so that even the shirkers are safe.

Anyone who does not get a vaccine, should not pretend to be a real follower of JFK. And are really upset about his murder. Those who do not get vaccinated and participate in this forum are frauds.

I had the same reaction to both Pfizer doses I received in Dec and Jan, extreme weakness, fatigue, aches, chills, elevated temp. For a short time I was so weak I could barely move my legs, and couldn't get my self into sitting position from lying down. Much better the following day.

You got the Pfizer vaccine in December of 2020? You must have been among the first group of people to receive it. In the US? Or UK? Or elsewhere?

Some states are asking Washington to hold off on vaccine deliveries due to waning interest, according to the latest news today. Uh, oh..
