Title: What make/model is this mystery car? (any clearer picture?)
Post by: Margaret Kelly on December 04, 2019, 12:50:16 AM
It was parked right outside the door of the TSBD:

It kinda looks like this type of car, but i'm not an expert on 1950's/1960's cars:

Any idea what kind of car it is? And who might own it?

Trying to match the "A" pillar, aka windshield post, and the "B" pillar, aka center post, and the "C" pillar, aka the sail panel (behind rear door).... no high confidence match of all three.

The challenge is the angle....example- two views of Tippit's patrol car, '62 or '63 Ford Galaxy

It looks like a two door sedan. A two door coupe has no "B" pillar, and it seems too short to be a four door....

Different rear side fins.

I think it's either a 1956 or 1957 Pontiac or Oldsmobile 4 door sedan. The rear sheet metal was different on Chevy's. In 1958, GM changed the body styles on almost all of their lines of cars. So it's definitely pre-1958.

I was thinking Pontiac at first look. And it looks most like a 1958 Pontiac Star Chief to me:

The four door had an additional window segement just behind the rear door. abutting the sail panel aka "C" pillar.

I'm still thinking a 56 or 57 Pontiac or Olds 4 door. Look at the picture closely. You can see the line of the back of the rear door. It may be a 58 Pontiac because GM made changes in 1958 to their body styles and I'm not sure if that included Pontiac. Oldsmobile definitely like Chevy and Buick and Cadillac made changes. If we saw more of the front end, I could definitely identify the year and make. Either way, I'm pretty sure its pre-58 unless it's a Pontiac. Not sure about that make.

I hope you'll agree the angle of the "mystery car" and the photo details make it nearly impossible to work with, almost "anybody's guess".

After doing a little research, I'm pretty sure it's a 1957 Pontiac Chieftan 4dr sedan. Google the car and look at the pics. Let me know what you think.

I believe the car is a two door....  1958 Pontiac  ( or possibly an Oldsmobile ) ..... The roof line and windshield appear to be GM...That fender extension looks to be Oldsmobile ....   But if this is the vehicle that was facing east on the south side of the street in front of the TSBD it definitely is a 1958 Pontiac.

Yeah, if the clearer image you posted is the same vehicle as is displayed this thread's OP, I think you've got it. The body side trim is convincing,
vs the Oldsmobile side-moulding

Okay....I'm fine with a 57 or 58 Pontiac. Definitely not an Olds  or Chevy. I'll settle with the Pontiac for sure. So......hmmmm   what is the reason for the question? What are we looking for here? A car is parked on North Houston facing south and what do we need to know about it?????

Just a guess.....  Perhaps someone is suggesting that the car belonged to Jack Ruby who owned a light colored Oldsmobile.
