Title: Why do so many people think the JFKA was a conspiracy?
Post by: John Corbett on August 27, 2026, 12:11:28 PM
There are lots of reasons actually. I believe part of it is a cultural thing. Generations of Americans who grew up watching lawyer and cop shows on TV have been conditioned to believe things aren't always what they seem. The guy who starts out being the prime suspect at the beginning of the program ends up being exonerated and the actual perp is revealed. The obvious exception to this is, of course, Columbo. That program would let us know right from the start who committed the murder and the entertainment came from watching Columbo work the suspect until he broke down. People want to look at the JFK assassination as a crime drama. A mystery. They know it just couldn't have been what it seems like. There has to be more to the story. Surely Perry Mason would have gotten Oswald off and got the actual perp to breakdown and confess on the witness stand.

The reality is life is not a TV drama. The guy who starts out looking like the guy who did the deed usually is the guy who did the deed. The JFKA isn't a mystery and never was. The DPD had gathered enough evidence in the first 12 hours to allow Henry Wade to formally charge him with JFK's murder 12 hours after the shots were fired. The case against Oswald just got stronger from there as the FBI developed the forensic evidence. People don't want a pat answer to the JFK assassination. They want something more interesting than a lowly paid laborer with a cheap rifle took advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity and took out the President of the United States. Unfortunately for them, you can't always get what you want. But that hasn't stopped generations of snipe hunters from looking for a different solution other than the one that was obvious from the start.

Why do so many people think [sic] the JFKA was a conspiracy?

Not due to any probative evidence, but because they psychologically need to, and because 1) JFK disappeared from Zapruder's camera's view for about a second-and-a-half, 2) in the echo chamber known as Dealey Plaza, and 3) when the right half of his brain was suddenly destroyed by a bullet from behind, it caused the left side of his body to catastrophically react in a neuromuscular kinda way that made it seem he'd been hit by a bullet from the front or side.

Mark Lane started the ball rolling and soon every little anomaly was found which started a landslide
of suspicion. Plus it was  the 60’s , rebellion against establishment, police brutality , discrimination, segregationists. So it was very confusing.

Back then, the South was solid Democrat. That began to change when a coalition of Northern Democrats and moderate Republicans passed the 1964 Civil Rights Bill. That was going to be a hot button issue no matter what. I'm wondering how Vietnam would have played out. I'm betting JFK would have faced anti-war protests if he had won a second term. I don't think he would have pulled out but I don't think he would have escalated the way LBJ did. Would Nixon have made a comeback in 1968. Would RFK have been the Democrat nominee? So many questions we will never know the answers to.

Probably for the same reason so many Americans (35%!) approve of The Traitorous Orange I could crush a Grape ooooh yummy yummy -- gullibility and irrationality.

JC--

The WC LNT, fabricated to meet LBJ's directive to avoid any finding that might trigger a nuke war, never even suffered a legal test in a trial, let alone met some sort of scientific standard of proof.

The WC was the first official investigation into the JFKA, 1964.

The second official investigation, the HSCA, 1979, found that a JFKAC was likely.

The LNT fails to explain what Sam Holland saw (smoke on the GK), why there was gunsmoke in the GK area in the immediate aftermath of the JFKA, why so many witnesses heard gunshots from the GK, or why there was a man flashing a fake Secret Service credential in the GK, also in the immediate aftermath of the JFKA.

That above is all fact.

My layman's take on the Z-film is that Gov JBC is shot at Z-295 and JFK at Z-313. That sequence lines up with many witnesses who said they heard a "bang....bang-bang" cadence of audible gunshots.

Connally: I was knocked over, just doubled over by the force of the bullet. It went in my back and came out my chest about 2 inches below and the left of my right nipple. The force of the bullet drove my body over almost double and when I looked, immediately I could see I was just drenched with blood. (1 HSCA 42)

The LNT version requires that Gov. JBC makes a 180-degree turn in his seat to check on JFK after being shot through his chest, and that JBC holds onto his Stetson hat, after being shot through the wrist.

The CT's and LNT's have their adherents. As to which camp has the most nuts...well, that's a toss-up.

I have reasonable doubts about the LNT. And many CT's.

The LNT version requires that Gov. JBC make a 180-degree turn in his seat to check on JFK after being shot through his chest, and that JBC holds onto his Stetson hat, after being shot through the wrist.

The Lone Gunman Advocate version only requires that rational people take notice of the fact that, looking-to-his-right JBC, after turning his head quickly to his left between Z-150 and Z-160 to see if Nellie is okay, at Z-165 starts turning his head and upper torso back far to his right in an attempt to catch a glimpse of JFK over his right shoulder to see if HE is okay, and, having failed to do so (because JFK has turned HIS head far to his right and raised his arm to wave to his acquaintance, Mary Woodward, and her three cheering-and-clapping colleagues), starts turning his head and torso back to his left at Z-204 (with the idea of looking for JFK over his left shoulder) when he is struck by CE-399 after having turned his head and torso only a couple of inches (and therefor is still turned to his right) at approximately Z-223. And taking notice, of course, that JBC, being a large man and having been shot through the chest instead of having his transverse process nicked by the bullet, reacted differently and seemingly more slowly than JFK did to being wounded by the aforementioned CE-399, aka THE MAGIC BULLET.

You have provided your layman's view of the JFKA, as seen through the Z film.

You gloss over Gov. JBC making a 180-degree turn in his seat, to look backward, after being shot through the chest (in your layman's view).

Then we have JBC's testimony:

Connally: I was knocked over, just doubled over by the force of the bullet. It went in my back and came out my chest about 2 inches below and the left of my right nipple. The force of the bullet drove my body over almost double and when I looked, immediately I could see I was just drenched with blood. (1 HSCA 42)

Your version requires that JBC did not recognize when he was shot through his chest. OK.

Bottom line: The LNT requires a lot of selective and biased sifting through the evidence...one reason the official HSCA investigation concluded there had likely been a JFKAC.

Many CT's require the some suspension of disbelief. Same with the LNT.

You gloss over JBC's making a 180-degree turn in his seat to look backward after being shot through the chest.

People have been known to do all kinds of "strange" things after being shot.
