Professor Pearcy's Bad History Lesson
Professor Thomas Pearcy is the supposed CIA whistleblower who allegedly saw CIA documents which indicated the agency fooled G. Robert Blakey of the HSCA. He gave a speech last week in Indiana and here is an analysis of his speech -- and a full transcript. He didn't sound like a professor of history -- he just sounded like a JFK conspiracy theorist. Why would anybody take him seriously?

"JFK conspiracy theorist" is a much kinder word than my preferred term which is "kook", but you're much more polite than I am, Fred.

Let's pick out a good one (so many to choose from): Dr. Pearcy says "The Sixth Floor Museum" is a "false flag operation". And a "completely false flag operation" at that. Whatever that means. Here's the claim from him:
"One really good example of a false flag operation is the Sixth Floor Depository in Dallas, Texas. If you've ever been there, it is completely a false flag operation, and I know the people that run the false flag operation. I will not say it here because I still enjoy family life, but we'll probably get that in the Congressional Record at some point."
A false flag? That makes no sense to me unless by "false flag" he simply means a covert operation or program. My understanding is that a "false flag" is an act done by one party or group under disguise that is intended to implicate a second party in the act. So a group of soldiers in disguise, enemy uniforms for example, commit an act - massacre civilians - in order to make it look like the enemy soldiers committed the crime. That is, a deception, a ruse involving an act or acts. So how does this definition apply to the Museum? The Museum is pretending to be who? To blame who for what? Acting how?
Okay, so the museum is simply a covert operation; forget the "false flag" nonsense. That means people like Gary Mack and others who work(ed) in the museum are or were willingly (I assume?) part of a covert operation? Agents acting on behalf of the CIA? They are lying to the public, engaged in deception. For decades. And right now. Today. As you read this. Whew.
What is his evidence for this claim? It's a pretty serious allegation. Dr. Pearcy is not simply some guy on the internet (like me and you reading this). He's an accomplished person making public statements. He's testified before Congress. And is going to do so again. He's accusing the people at the Museum of being frauds, of lying about who they are. And lying about murder. Of the President. Of the United States. And his evidence is?
This is the same Dr. Pearcy who is upset that Fred posted a picture of him with his dog but is fine with accusing all sorts of people of lying for the murder of the President. Does he not see the problem here?

Great video, Fred. Too bad Pearcy turned out to be just another conspiracy kook.

I have told Morley and others that Pearcy's story is highly implausible, to put it gently. I've worked at the kinds of sites Pearcy says he worked at. His account of finding classified files on the JFK case strikes me as wildly unlikely and foreign to my experience at classified sites. I find it very hard to believe that files would have been labeled with the titles he claims to have seen on them, much less that they would have been left out for anyone to peruse, especially in a SCIF. His story is just unbelievable to me.
I've explained these thing to CTers who are pushing his story, but they won't listen.

Interestingly, probable KGB mole Bruce Solie, father-figure-requiring James Angleton's confidant, mentor, and mole-hunting superior in the Office of Security, did hide documents from the Church Committee and the HSCA.
Just one example: Richard Case Nagell
https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/docs/SECURITY%20FILE%20NAGEL%2C%20RICH%5B16505869%5D.pdf

They didn't hide anything about Nagell. That is just plain nonsense.

Litwin,
Instead of sharing your knee-jerk reaction, why don't you read the "cover letter" that Solie attached to that thick Nagell file?
He attached exactly the same "cover letter" to lots of files he didn't want the HSCA to have. IIRC, June Cobb's was another.
Here it is:
(Classified "Secret")
23 August 1978
MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
FROM: Bruce L. Solie
Chief, Security Analysis Group
SUBJECT: NAGELL, Richard Case
#264 170
1. This memorandum identifies those Office of Security files which were reviewed by House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) staff members in conjunction with the HSCA's investigation into the deaths of President John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
2. Under procedures established with the HSCA, certain items of information were not reviewed by HSCA staff members. These items were placed in envelopes, sealed, appropriately identified, and put back into the security file prior to HSCA review. Office of Security personnel reviewing these files should maintain the integrity of each envelope below so that interested parties may know what was and was not reviewed by HSCA staff members.
3. In some instances, the above files contain material marked in the lower right-hand corner with a green circular dot. This mark should alert Office of Security personnel to the fact that this material was located and placed in the file at the time of the HSCA review and was seen by an HSCA staffer(s).
This material should not be removed from-the file.
4. Attached to this memorandum is a review sheet which identifies the name of the HSCA reviewer(s) and the date of his review.
5. Questions regarding the above procedure and/or the HSCA's review should be directed to the Security Analysis Group.

I read it. I see no indication that the HSCA did not see what it wanted to see. As you know, there was nothing of significance in the Nagell file. The only things the CIA might have wanted to keep from the HSCA is the location of some CIA stations in Europe. Otherwise, there is nothing of interest to anyone.

Dear Fweddie,
I only mentioned Nagell because he's the easiest name for me to remember of all of the people whose Office of Security files probable KGB mole Bruce Leonard Solie hid from the Church Committee and/or the HSCA.
Next time I'll try to think of one whose name won't "push your buttons" into a near apoplectic state.

A Response to my Post on Professor Pearcy
My post on Professor Pearcy about his speech last week in Indiana was tweeted out by Mark Zaid and Gerald Posner. Their tweets got an interesting reaction from a chief writer at JFK Facts, which is Jefferson Morley's Substack.

It would be ironic if he was mad at probable KGB mole Bruce Solie and didn't realize it.

Both CT'ers and LNT'ers are vulnerable to bias confirmation.
I am wary of anyone who says they saw files...but there is no way for the rest of us to confirm that.

How about evidence, written by the KGB mole, himself, that certain Office of Security files were hidden from the HSCA?

Fred, I am very surprised to see you say such a thing, given what we now know about the materials and information that the CIA withheld from the HSCA. As just one example, do you think Lopez and Hardway are lying about being denied access to documents/information they wanted to see? Do you think Fonzi was lying about this? Surely you've read Blakey's 2014 statement about the CIA's obstruction of the HSCA's investigation.
As you know, I am no leftist critic of the CIA. I usually defend the CIA against the outlandish, draconian attacks made against it by liberal JFKA researchers. I believe the CIA has done a great deal of good for America and for the cause of freedom. But, the CIA did have some very bad apples, and some of them held high positions.

One day you'll realize that there were at least three KGB moles in the CIA before Aldrich Ames started spying for that world-class humanitarian organization, and that one of them may have sent Oswald to Moscow as an ostensible "dangle" in an (unbeknownst to Angleton and Oswald) planned-to-fail hunt for "Popov's U-2 Mole" (the guy who sent LHO to Moscow) in the wrong part of the CIA.

Hardway lost his credibility here:
