Title: Before which of the three shots did JFK and Jackie wave to Mary Woodward?
Post by: Tom Graves on July 26, 2026, 08:23:32 AM
In her 23 November 1963 Dallas Morning News article, Mary Woodward, who had met JFK several times at campaign and political events prior to his presidency, said:

1) There were three shots (Correct)

2) JFK and Jackie both turned and smiled and waved at her and her colleagues before the first shot (Wrong. JFK turned, smiled, and waved at her -- and her three colleagues -- between Z-180 and Z-190, about two seconds before the second shot. We can presume that Jackie did the same because in Z-190 her head is no longer turned far to her left but far to her right in Woodward's direction.)

3) The first shot missed everything. (Correct)

4) JFK and Jackie turned their heads in response to the first shot. (Correct. JFK turned his head quickly to his left in Z-144; Jackie turned her head farther to her left and was "captured" looking at Robert Croft in his Z-161 photo.)

5) The limo slowed down and almost stopped after the first shot. (Wrong. It slowed down after the second shot)

For those of you with good eyesight, look how far Secret Service Agents Glen Bennett and George Hickey in the rear seat of the follow-up car have leaned over to their right and left, respectively. (Bennet is sitting much lower than Hickey and is leaning his head very far to his right in order to see around Dave Powers in front of him.)

JFK and Jackie weren't monkeying around when they turned, smiled, and waved at Mary Moorman Woodward and her three colleagues between Z-180 and Z-190 instead of just before Oswald's early, missing-everything, first shot (which Woodward mistakenly reported in her 11/23/63 Dallas Morning News article).

Sadly, what happened a few seconds later around Z-222 and at Z-313 made everyone in Dealey Plaza go apexxxx.
