Steve Barber:

Several times per day throughout the week, the Sign-In page pops up and members of the Forum
have to sign in.  Is something bad going on here?

Royell Storing:

So far, I have remained signed-in.

It's a Forum security issue concerning Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.

A Denial of Service (DoS) attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt normal traffic of a targeted server, service, or network by overwhelming it with a flood of Internet traffic, making it unavailable to users.

These attacks can cause system crashes, slow performance, and, in DDoS (Distributed DoS) cases, use thousands of compromised devices (botnets) to flood the target, ie this Forum.

When I require Logged out members to Login at random times of my choosing, this tactic works in combating these attacks by reducing the number of pages that the Bots etc can attack.

Thanks so much, Duncan.  I appreciate you letting me know.

Nowadays, we can never be careful enough with the going-on with these stupid bots and attacks.

Sadly, things surely aren't as simple as they were when the internet was fresh and new.
