CTers Say the Darndest Things, Bill Simpich edition ...

Bill Simpich just said this at the Ed Forum, on a thread about Oswald's "mysterious" (or maybe not) calls to Abt and the Daily Worker from jail the night of the assassination:

I think it stems from 11/22 being a Friday afternoon and the difficulty of reaching a lawyer over the weekend.  I'm an attorney and I know.  I've always assumed it was no accident the assassination occurred at a time one is least likely to make contact with legal counsel. LHO gets arrested at 2 pm, the rule of thumb is 3-4 hours before an arrestee is given their right to make phone calls.  Voila!  Day is done.  That's what happened to Oswald.

It was "no accident" the assassination occurred at noon on a Friday, and that Oswald was arrested at 2 PM, because these facts ensured he wouldn't be making any calls for assistance before 5 or 6 PM and thus wouldn't be able to reach legal counsel (attorneys all being at their country clubs with cocktails in hand by 4 PM on Friday). The timing of the JFKA and Oswald's arrest were PLANNED ("no accident") to ensure Oswald couldn't reach an attorney?

Isn't this just ... nuts? And from someone whom CTers regard as one of their deeper thinkers. Oy. Conspiracy Logic run amuck.

In case you were wondering, in the jurisdiction in which Bill practices (California) a statute says an arrestee must be allowed three COMPLETED calls "immediately" after booking but in any event NO LATER than three hours after booking. There is no comparable statute or rule in Texas. Bill's rule of thumb, which he knows because he's an attorney, violates the statute. Here is more than you ever wanted to know: https://www.chicagoappleseed.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/20210719_FINAL_Report_Right-to-Communicate-Nationwide-Survey.pdf.

An exceedingly minor point, I'll admit, but if you pay close attention even the most prominent voices in the CT community say absolutely wacky things that go unchallenged by their sycophants.
