Almost no one was as nutty as Lifton.  He must have been a really nice guy to have maintained such a high reputation.  His theories were outright lunacy of the type that would justify mental health intervention if expressed in public and not just in books.
What's so odd is that he saw through the Garrison farce, recognized the insanity of his investigation and didn't just go along with it as a sort of "He means well and he's on our side anyway" rationale. He was correctly outraged at the abuses by Garrison and denounced them at that time and not later like a Weisberg. How he saw through Garrison and still promoted ideas that I think even Garrison would find absurd is puzzling.

It's always amazing listening to conspiracists complain about the mistreatment of Oswald by the Warren Commission and then praise Garrison's investigation. Nobody mistreated Oswald worse than what Garrison did.
