I just read "Dallas 1963," by Bill Minutaglio and Steven L. Davis.

It's not about the assassination itself, but rather the radical right-wingers (such as H.L. Hunt, Edwin Walker, and Ted Dealey) whose extremism formed the backdrop for JFK's fatal excursion into "nut country."

Whatever your views on the case may be, I think you'll find it interesting.

Thanks for the recommendation, Dave. The political climate in Dallas at the time of President Kennedy's visit was indeed volatile and kind of gets buried by other aspects of the assassination and its aftermath.  Sounds like excellent reading.
