First lets look at this:

Now what if we deliberately remove what "seems" to be a shooting skull fragment? Sequence kinda takes on a whole new feeling, doesn't it? Look at which
direction the cloud of debris immediately takes. The fragment shooting upwards and forward creates the illusion of a shot from the rear.

This is where it gets messy

So we have Chaney braking and looking towards the pergola / pedestal area.

Apparently something has caught his attention, does Officer Chaney go to investigate. ( at this point Chaney has stopped, and the queen mary follow up car has passed him )

But

According to Chaney and other officers, he then guns his motorcycle, and goes racing after the the lead car with Curry in it, to tell him what has happened.

It's my understanding that Chaney didn't catch up to Curry in the lead car, until they had entered the Stemmons freeway ramp.

it appears that Ready even steps down from the running board. You can also see Bill Newman going down.
