Question for those who own - John Arrmstrong: Harvey and Lee  (Read 461 times)

I have been looking for a copy of John Armstrong's book (Harvey and Lee) for some time. A few copies have popped up from time to time, here and there. From what I gather the book is quite rare these days. And the prices I have seen seem to reflect this.  walkietalkie2

I was wondering how much owners of this book paid for their copies so I can decide whether or not the prices I am seeing are realistic or not.

Thanks.

Martin- In reality, the book has been "rare" since the day it was published. I do not know John Armstrong. I do know he spent years carefully researching and documenting- the book is saturated with footnotes. What I do not understand is why someone would pour his heart and soul (and probably many thousands of dollars) into such a work and then do so little to promote it. My wife doggedly pursued the sole distributor (I had the impression it was a one-man operation out of his home. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) of the book for over a year before finally appealing to his wife to send me the book while her husband was seriously ill. As it was a gift from my wife, not sure exactly how much she paid, but I seem to recall it was around $45 (U.S.) Even if you can find a copy for twice that, I'd recommend the investment. And because of its rarity, it will be an investment that will only increase in value.

I paid $45  for mine too when it was offered on Rich Dellarosa's website. That is who Jeff is talking about.  His wife, Shelby, was handling the sales. That was a few years ago.

Mitz,
Did you try to get a hold of Andy W. ?  Last I heard, he was carrying it.

Thanks, Kathy. The name rings a bell.

One of the favorite arguments/accusations of some LNs on this site is that everyone who writes pro-conspiracy books is merely looking for monetary gain. Clearly, when it comes to Armstrong, that is not the case.

Jeff,

Thanks for the info. I couldn't agree more and I also find it peculiar that such little effort seems to have gone into the publishing and distribution side of things. I have heard of quite a few people trying to get hold of a copy unsuccessfully. Like you said, you would think that with the amount of effort gone into writting it more effort would have gone into getting it out there with second and third prints if the first batch sold out. Obviously there is a demand for it.

Hi Kathy,

Thank you also for the info. I guess $45 sounds right if bought from an official seller. The prices being asked for the very few copies I have seen recently are outrageous in comparison.

Thanks very much for the link. The book doesn't show up using the website's search feature but I have sent an email enquiring if it is available or potentially obtainable.  thumbs1xx

James,

Yes, I saw Amazon.com has a used copy for $295.

Amazon.co.uk had a copy up until a few days ago. It was listed with a price tag of just over £700 which equates to around $1100. It is no longer listed so I wonder if it sold!

I also found another copy a few weeks ago on another site selling for $475.

Unbelievable!

I went shopping around for a copy over 6 months ago and the cheapest I could find back then was about $300 US. When I finally convinced my wife to get it for my birthday it was sold. I gave up after that.
Does anyone know if its in PDF form?
