just wondering if anyone else is into building systems for gaming and benchmarking ?  or am i the only benchmarking geek here ? ... i just got finished building a computer with a i7-990x core with a asus rampage iii black edition ... it also has a fxf hd 6990 video card with Kingston HyperX T1 6GB DDR3 2250MHz Triple Channel Kit ...the hard drive is a m4 crucial 512gb solid state drive ...  pretty sweet machine ,,,, will eat thru any game i throw at it ... i have a 24 gb memory kit coming for it when i decide to use some memory intensive CAD programs ,,, i built this from scratch ,,right  from the power supply straight thru to the case ,,,,, i spent stupid money doing it to ,,, smokexx    anyways ,,, just thought i would see if there were any any others here that are interested in this type of expensive hobbie ... probably not ... but if u do ,,, just curious of what type of system and programs u utilize ...etc ..

i was thinking about doing a hdd to ssd swap too . i recently purchased a crucial m4 256gb for my gaming computer and the thing is a beast .. it is also a sata 6 , and my motherboard ( asus rampage iii black )  has the updated marvel sata 6 ports ... so no problems at all .. my read/write speeds benchmark around 430/ 270 ..!!  ive had it about a month now with no slow downs, bsod, or anything ...
that vertex iii will definitely wake that laptop up ! ,, they also score pretty high on reviews ,,,,  i dont think u can go wrong with either ssd ... my bootup time for windows7 64 is about 12seconds ! ...

That Crucial is a great ssd, and gets rave reviews.

I want to keep the internal HD and remove the optical drive and install an ssd in its place.  Photoshop works much better if its swap file in on a different drive than the system drive.  My workstation is not that fast to boot, unless I remove all the external drives I have attached to it.  Currently there are three 2tb externals with archives and a 8 in 1 card reader. They really slow down the boot.

Hello, Jim.

My hobby is rebuilding old computers. I started this work about five years ago to test my web pages on various browsers running assorted operating systems. Needless to say, this hobby got out of hand as I now have about 50 assembled machines. I guess I should have taken up rasing tribbles.
