The radio for the limo passengers, which was in a niche next to Mrs. Kennedy behind the rear door, had to be modified so that the pushbutton channel changers (standard at the time) would fit properly.  They used a stock '61 Lincoln Continental radio, so whatever that was, AM, FM or both, is what was in the car.  I happen to believe that that passenger radio was switchable to an identical niche at the right end of the back seat, which is why there was another antenna mount but no antenna on the right rear fender top.  These antenna mounts were stock body trim parts, and were also used on the front fenders for the two flags.  I could go on and on and on and on and...........Suffice it to say that your photo of the car's interior radio setup is wonderful to me, and if you have other similar pics that the world hasn't seen, by all means post them.

The best photo by far of the limo interior is the Corbis version on the jfkassassinationgallery site, taken by Dillard at Love Field.  You can see the passenger radio, AND it's speaker, partially obscured by the seat.

In a letter from Marc J. Parsons to T. H. Mecke, Jr. on May 11, 1961 he points out that the newly designed Presidential limousine will be equipped with an A-M radio and speaker in the rear compartment.
I have not yet found the parts number for it, but I'll go out on a limb and bet they used the best stock Philco radio which was probably standard in all top line Fords.
Someone may have one in an old Lincoln or be able to find a photo of one from a car club for comparison.

In the meantime perhaps the best close-up view of the radio is the photograph of the limo taken by Cecil Stoughton when WHCA was installing all the electronics.

If there was blood on the outside of the limo, it's a good bet these guys cleaned it up.

I think I recognize the radio. You are correct about it being the standard Philco radio. If my memory serves me correctly, I saw the same radio in a 1964 Galaxie 500.

Interesting to note the flared aluminum brake drums. I've never heard of them before and don't recall ever seeing aluminum drums or rotors on any vehicle. I wonder if they would make for touchy brakes.

Thanks, I had forgotten all about the Galaxie 500 and I've had a lot of Fords.
I think they needed the special brakes because the car was so heavy and the engine so powerful.

Good pictures of the backseat where Jackie rode in the car. It looks like your basic 1963 AM pushbutton radio, a vent and some type of switch for the door(maybe for the window or door lock) This is a picture of the car today.
