Lyndon Baines Johnson won the 1964 US Presidential Election in a landslide. President Lyndon B. Johnson famously invoked the pledge in his March 31, 1968, national address announcing that he would not seek a second full term, saying "I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my party for another term as your president. I don't fully understand why he would give up power. As a guest, you are not allowed to view links.

He was president for 5 years and wanted to go out a winner, not to mention he was probably not feeling very well. my guesses,

LN; So how did it happen then ?
CT; I don't know, I only know that it didn't happen the way the evidence says.
LN; We should not use evidence in this case ?
CT; Correct.

Register or LoginHe was sick and tired of the Vietnam War and saw no way out. Because he didn't think he could run the war and spend time on trying to get elected again. He was trying to win peace in Vietnam, and he knew to get elected he would have to say things to the American public that would hurt the peace process. And the War was killing him. The nuts try to build him up to be some kind of cold blooded madman who didn't give a crap about kids dying in Vietnam, but its nonesense. To fight in Vietnam was a huge decision for an American President at the time, they just lose China less then 20 years before, and although he thought we had to defend the South, it was killing him.

What is silly is thinking that two turns that reduced the speed of the car to 8-11 m.p.h. is no big deal when motorcades are suppose to keep a 44 m.p.h. speed..R Caprio
LHO had poor hand-eye coordination and proof of this is seen in the fact he couldn't drive an automobile-- R Caprio

Mitch.
In my humble opinion, the powers that be, told LBJ to step down. As a result, Bobby Kennedy, could then be murdered by a lone gunman, and be forever taken out of the "Picture."
After all, how would it look if LBJ had gained the Presidency twice, by the "Untimely death's," of two Kennedy's.
In other words, LBJ left, because "Bobby," had to go.

That really stings---I think you mean---Paranoid and Ridiculous. World view of 1968--includes Vietnam, and the power to stop it---as President, RFK, would then have the Power to do something about---JFK's untimely demise. Michael

My guess is guilty conscience. Bobby was about to release his investigation of the assassination and he had serious heart problems.

NOT for many more years after this! Some guy huh? He starts a war and then "can't take it" and leaves the fighting men there without a care. Then some people have doubts about him being involved in the JFK murder?
