TESTIMONY OF GERALD LYNN HILL

The testimony of Gerald Lynn Hill was taken at 4:15 p.m., on April 8, 1964, in the office of the U.S. attorney, 301 Pest Office Building, Bryan and Ervay Streets, Dallas, Tex., by Mr. David W. Belin, assistant counsel of the President's Commission.

...
Mr. BELIN. I want to hand you what I will mark as G. L. Hill Deposition Exhibit A, and ask you to state if you know what this is.
Mr. HILL. Yes, sir; this is a picture that was made about the time when we were actually putting the handcuffs on the suspect in the theatre. That may have been a split second before or a split second after, or right as we completed the putting on of the handcuffs.
Mr. BELIN. Do you recognize any people in there?
Mr. HILL. This would have been the suspect [pointing].
Mr. BELIN. Now, the suspect is a man who you can see parts of the profile from the left side of his face. He appears to be seated or lower than the others?
Mr. HILL. Lower than the other people in the picture.
Mr. BELIN. Then there is a person with a hat on to the right.
Mr. HILL. To the immediate right of the suspect, and that is me.
Mr. BELIN. Then there is a man with a cigar who is looking over the suspect?
Mr. HILL. That is Detective Paul Bentley.
Mr. BELIN. Now there is a person with light-colored hair that appears to have his hands----
Mr. HILL. That would be C. T. Walker.
Mr. BELIN. Then there is another person that is in the extreme left-foreground part of the picture. Do you know who that is?
Mr. HILL. Capt. W. R. Westbrook.
Mr. BELIN. Then a party with a hat on. Do you know who that is?
Mr. HILL. I have no idea.
Mr. BELIN. That is to the left?
Mr. HILL. No, sir.
Mr. BELIN. Then there is, you can barely see maybe a police hat. Is that anything you can recognize?
Mr. HILL. Not from that; no, sir.
Mr. BELIN. All fight, go ahead, sir. You say that you and Ray Hawkins handcuffed the suspect?
Mr. HILL. At about this time Captain Westbrook and a man who was later in the day identified to me as, I believe his name was Barnett, an FBI agent ----

does anybody know what picture Mr Hill is talking about ? I googled but no results

gerry,

I'm viewing a 35mm slide of this exhibit.
For unknown reasons. I have labeled the
slide as being taken by MacCammon but
my copy is in black and white.  As you
know, MacCammon shot color that day.

johnw

Hallo John,

MacCammon shot this famos picture, is that correct ?

in Hill's staement he talks about a picture that was taken inside the theatre, i did not know that pictures were taken inside. If xou have anything it would be great, Thanks a lot,

hi gerry,

The MacCammon series includes the plaza after the assassination, the area of
the Tippit shooting and the arrest of Oswald at the Texas Theater including the
image you posted above.

Per my conversations with S.L. Reed's son, his father believes that one of the
images label as MacCammon was one of his images.

Shortly afterwards MacCammon left Dallas.

Per a disagreement with this forum, I no longer post images.  Sorry.

johnw

ps.  I would be interest in seeing a image of MacCammon.

John,

thanks a lot for the info !

A pity that you don't post pictures anymore !!

I've found this picture on the internet:

it is very dark and one can't really tell who is who in this picture. I don't even know IF it is at all taken inside the TX Theatre.

Do you know this pic and who made it ... and what it shows ?

best, gerda

gerry,

to the best of my knowledge neither MacCammon or Reed exposed
any film inside the theatre.  The Gerald Hill Exhibit is a singular frame
taken from Reiland's film footage.

Sorry I did not address your question earlier.

johnw

John,

you are a goldmine, thanks a lot for the infos !!

I've just been looking for the Reiland film that was shot inside the theatre, but could not find it yet. I've seen it soemwhere on youtube some centuries ago...
i remember that there really wasn't anything to see but dark shadows.

best to you, gerda

Ruby was present at the arrest...

John, something tells me you are going to have a rich time on the Harris forum.

John,

Applin testified that he spoke to a man, but did not testify that this man was Ruby.

Ruby was at the offices of the Dallas Morning News at the time of the assassination.
So we're supposed to have Ruby at Parkland Hospital at 1:30.
Then he makes a mad dash to the Texas Theater and is inside the theater at 1:45 to witness the arrest of Oswald.  Mapquest says that it is six and a half miles and takes 10 minutes to drive from Parkland to the Texas Theater.
After the arrest, he makes yet another mad dash to the Carousel Club, where he arrived around 2:00.  Some even say that he arrived at the Carousel Club well before 2:00.

While it might be physically possible to travel from one location to the next in the allotted time, it just doesn't make sense.  It doesn't allow for even a minute or two of "hanging around" time after being seen at Parkland and after witnessing the arrest at the Texas Theater.

And I quote:  "After 15 years of remaining silent  George J. Applin, Jr., told his story."   Another perfect example of witnesses saying one thing back then, which was more than likely the truth, and then flat out making up lies and adding them to their story some years later.  In this case, he was in supposed fear of his life, which is the typical excuse that these  witnesses use.  Don't fall for it, John.

Gary Mack kindly informed me about the pictures taken by Jim MacCammon:

Quote
Jim MacCammon shot five color slides inside the Texas Theatre.  The first two were ruined when someone happened to walk in front of the camera as he tripped the shutter.  The third shows Oswald being handcuffed.

MacCammon then ran outside and caught Oswald being walked to a squad car.  The last image shows a wide view of the theater marquee and crowd.

The three images were published by the Warren Commission as the Gerald Hill Exhibit: As a guest, you are not allowed to view links. Register or Login As a guest, you are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

The color version of image #4 comes from a print made in Dallas presumably in 1963 or 1964 and preserved at The Sixth Floor Museum.

thanks a lot to Gary Mack for clarification !!

There are these two photos from inside the theater. I can;t remember who took them or who owns them, sorry. I did get them from a post at the Ed Forum. So at a guess it may have been Bernice that posted them? I'm sure someone here will know..

Frankie,

The two blowups of Oswald are frame grabs from news film shot by WFAA-TV's Ron Reiland in the Texas Theatre lobby.  The whereabouts of the original film is unknown, but it survives on the original 1963 video tape owned and preserved by The Sixth Floor Museum.
