Reading Fritz's notes on his "interrogation" of Oswald in the WCR, at one point there is discussion of Oswald obtaining legal representation and his desire to employ the services of Abt. Fritz reports that Oswald said "He didn't have money to pay for a phone call to Mr. Abt." (WCR606).
Now, according to the WCR, when he was arrested, Oswald had on his person either $13.87 (WCR328; 745) or $13.00 (WCR617).
Seems to me that $13.00 would be sufficient funds to be able to place a call to New York from Dallas and, so far as I can tell, Oswald knew enough about his rights and was certainly forthright enough to demand his own money be returned to him to allow him to make this call (oddly, Fritz notes that he suggested that Oswald call Abt "collect").
So why was Oswald reported as saying this, I wonder?
