They did it! You know they did!

Ian, you have the right attitude, as I should have had on Sunday evening!  Gerry, I come from the same town as Paul Gascoigne (Gateshead)and I'm embarrassed!  If I ever see Beckham, I'll mention you.  You never know!

My Uncles and aunts still live in Pelaw . When I was 17 we had a family visit to the Toon and being a Lager drinker my uncles felt it better for me to drink Exhibition Ale rather than the darker newky brown. What a mistake I managed about 6 pints and could not remember a thing till we got back to Watford 2 days later . I love football and when I stopped playing  I coached 8-12 year olds boys and girls for a few years it was such a laugh I recently started to coach again .Maybe one day I will discover a new Gazza because they are born that way you cannot coach it ,train it ,force it or buy it .Gazza was born to play football and thats just what he did.My favourite match of all time is the 1970 world cup final between the majestic Italians and the hypnotic Brazilians .One day I hope to be able to do away with DVD's and remember every second of that match .By then I shall probably be afflicted by some degenerative brain disorder but I won't care I will just rewind and press PLAY .ahh bliss

Pelaw?!  I could  walk to Pelaw in half an hour!  Small world or what?  Mind it's in Gateshead, not the Toon.   cop  I never thought I'd encounter someone on a JFK forum who'd drunk Ex.   rofl  I wonder why your uncle put you on Ex though?  It's not like we don't have lager around here.  I haven't had a pint of Exhibition since Charlie and Diana got married.  I was 18 or 19 and  beer was half price that night.  Being young and daft, I went crackers of course and sickened myself.  I haven't touched a drop of Ex since that night!

Yeah, Gascoigne was a genius all right but he's in self-destruct mode these days.  I took my two nephews to the Toon's training ground when he was just breaking into the first team and I remember him passing me and saying "Hello mate." as he did so.  Now, it's not a major point but he didn't have to be friendly, yet he was.  He spoiled his copybook in my eyes when he played for Rangers and did the flute/penny whistle thing.  Yes, I am a Celtic man so I'll say no more about it.  Anyway, how many of his ilk have ended up in the way he's heading?

Do something for me Ian; when you're coaching the kids, never, never, never decide that a lad is too small.  It was only at school mind but it happened to me.  Anyway, smaller lads are always more skillful than their taller peers - lower centre of gravity and all that!  Teach them all to enjoy the greatest game of all and not to be afraid to make a mistake.  Football in England needs change from the bottom up.  As for the '70 World Cup final, I remember watching it like it was yesterday but I've never seen it since.  Yes the goals, many times but not the whole game.  You've given me something to think about.   gimme5xx

My brother Stu was told at school that he was too small to play football By his 5'1" headmaster who's name was ......Mr Little.
He went on to become a good winger .Most of the coaching I do is based on the Salou Brazilian tradition. Play with a smile on your face and most importantly play with both feet.

That's priceless about your brother.  What standard did you and he get to?
As for the coaching; that's just the ticket mate.  Smiles on their faces and using both feet - love it.    gimme5xx
