I believe there was a music thread once upon a time. Might be erased due to backup actions. What are your favourites? I can't stop holding to hear this sweet song currently.

From (Paul McCartney &) Wings' 1979 "Back to the Egg" Album "Getting Closer" lyric excerpt Say You Don't Love Him, My Salamander. Why Do You Need Him? Oh No, Don't Answer, Oh No.
I'm Getting Closer, I'm Getting Closer To Your Heart.
Keeping Ahead Of The Rain On The Road, Watching My Windscreen Wipers. Radio Play Me A Danceable Ode, Cattle Beware Of Snipers.
When Will You See Me, My Salamander? Now Don't Try To Tell Me Oh No, Don't Answer, Oh No.Anyone know what Paul is referring to with "Cattle Beware of Snipers"? I have that album and always thought it was "Better Beware of Snipers" until I just did a search for the lyrics. Perhaps it has something to do with cattle mutilation in the Southwest (where Macca's first wife was from, Arizona). The Beatles supposedly helped America to "heal" in the wake of the Kennedy assassination. Their appearance on the Ed Sullivan show in the bleak winter of 1964 provided a spiritual uplift (to the youngsters anyway; the older set appreciated them more later on when the Boston Pops began to play their tunes, and icons like Sinatra sang a few of their songs). Mark Lane claimed he was informally approached by Paul McCartney in London to score the 1967 film "Rush to Judgment," but Lane deferred as he wanted the soundtrack for his film to be stark (the released RTJ album has spoken word, I believe). McCartney instead wrote the soundtrack to the 1966 British movie "As a guest, you are not allowed to view links.

Pepper album is that it refers to the Kennedy assassination. It may have been the same mindset (among the young, mostly) that were naively receptive to the JFK conspiracy propagandists were likewise responsive to the 1969 "Paul is dead" rumor (see As a guest, you are not allowed to view links.

(I recall a cartoon from the time that Oswald was exhumed; the doctors looked in the coffin and one said: "By Glory, it's Paul McCartney!") New on my playlist is 1960s Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. I don't much care for anything beyond 1990, but last night's Idol show generally had some very nice performances of sensible songs. Some really great music, here.
Duncan- I saw Rory Gallagher several times while in college in the early 70s. He will always remain one of my favorite performers. I wish I could have seen him play "Crest of a Wave."
Dave- The Count Basie clip really made me smile, I had not seen that one before. Sonny Payne is one of my favorite drummers. I did get to meet Freddie Green at a performance near the end of Bill's life.

Hi Doug, I seen Rory 3 times in the 70's at the Glasgow Apollo. I also seen most of the big bands, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Quo, AC/ DC with Bon Scott etc etc. I was at the AC/DC gig in the video below in 1978. It was the noisest crowd i've ever seen at a gig.

Hi Duncan
Thanks for the link, but unfortunately Sony Music has it blocked in the States. I saw them at Dayton Ohio's Hara Arena on the American leg of that tour. It's funny, looking back, I remember being surprised at how raucous the crowd was, compared to the more laid back stoner crowds that attended concerts in the early 70s at Hara Arena. I saw Humble Pie, ELP, Jeff Beck, Deep Purple, Wishbone Ash, The Allman Brothers, Sly and the Family Stone, Traffic, etc. at Hara Arena. Groups of that caliber no longer play that venue.

Well...I don't have a copy to post....but I watched the Haiti Earthquake Benefit on TV a few months ago...the one organized by George Clooney, here in the States,
and Justin Timberlake sat down at the piano and did an absolutely beautiful version of "Halleleujah" with a magical two-part harmony with some guitarist.....just piano, guitar and perfect two-part harmony live...........it brought tears to my eyes...............tears of joy.

CT; I don't know, I only know that it didn't happen the way the evidence says.
LN; We should not use evidence in this case ?
CT; Correct.

well, I am a musician........ you could always count on "Suffergette City"(Bowie) to get the crowd up on their feet dancing...I know. Everybody knew the "Wam Bam Thank You maame" line at one time. I am the type that sometimes gets hung up on one song, or one group at a time...........,and i play it often. I like that "Putting out the fire with gasoline"....line on another Bowie song. "See these eyes so blue,You wouldn't believe what I've been through"[/ Isn't that Cat People"? The Beatles were fabulous, the Stones,.......... Crosby,Stills Nash and Young's "Woodstock" rocks!!! I like Stevie Nicks, the Doors,Led Zepplin,Fleetwood Mac....and of coarse I like Dylan... ....McCartney's solo stuff was magic, Lennon and Harrison had some good solo efforts too' Recommend "Cloud Nine"CD by Harrison,Produced by Jeff Lynne. There's lots........for some reason now ......I am listening to "Do It Again" by our famous California Beach Boys...the Wilson Brothers. It just puts me in a good mood...probably means summer is getting close. These are for all the old schoolers ...just a sampler. Some of my 20-year old friends like Natalie Merchant and Raggae. I listen to the new too. I like to catch live, unsigned bands on the Club Circuit here n there too.
