How stupid were the conspirators?  (Read 1133 times)

This is something I've been wondering about for a long time, and a big part of the reason why alteration(and other conspiracy theories) is utter crap.

We have people believing that the conspiracy to kill JFK and cover it up included the CIA, the FBI, Secret Service, some DPD cops, LBJ and the mafia. The conspirators did all the following things according to some CT's:

Shoot JFK from multiple directions in an open plaza.
Had people stationed everywhere in Dealey Plaza to make signals with umbrellas and radios.
Ordered the Secret Service to not protect JFK and stop the limo on Elm street.
Created the WC with the only intention of framing Oswald.
Controlled the entire investigation and ignored all evidence that didn't support the official conclusion.
Altered several films and a big amount of photographs from that day using 1963 technology.
Altered the autopsy photosgraphs and X-rays.
Altered the body of JFK.
Destroyed a lot of important evidence and planted new fake evidence.
Killed many witnesses who did not support the official conclusion.
Hired people to tell people disinformation about the assassination.
Made the HSCA for the same purpose as the WC, only to fool the public into believing the official conclusion and ignore all other evidence.
Even today, 46 years later, they still employ people to sell the official conclusion.
They have made several documentaries on the Discovery Channel only to spread further disinformation.

I know very few CT's believe all those things, but a big part of CT's believe most of them. Now, the conspirators allegedly went through all that work only to get rid of JFK, one man.

I would like to ask, how stupid do people think the conspirators were?

Would a conspiracy with the power to do all those things really choose to kill JFK in an open space with many hundreds of witnesses? They couldn't know nor control how many people would bring cameras, so there would be a big risk of a movie showing the real truth, which they had spent so much time deleting from the Zapruder, Nix and Muchmore film.

Also, just imagine how many people the conspiracy has involved over the last 46 years, and how much money is must have cost. If you had the power to do all those things, would this be a good solution?

Why didn't the conspiracy kill him in a place with much fewer witnesses, which would be way easier to get away with? They could do it an a lot of ways that would make more sense, e.g. put poison in his coffee to provoke a heart attack.

Why would the conspirators choose such an obviously stupid way of killing JFK, when it involved so much risk? Why?

I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.

All the risk of an assassination wasn't necessary, if "THEY" wanted to get of Kennedy all they had to do was leak/expose his debauched sex life. A lot of Kennedy's attraction was built on his "good family man" image, the truth would have cost him the upcoming election.

Dennis, this is such a valid point.  Were there a conspiracy to get Kennedy out of office, there were certainly safer ways to do so.  Leaking secrets, rigging the 1964 election were but two.  Gary simply lists the old "Kennedy has enemies issue".  All world leaders have enemies.   However, motive is not evidence and this is the point Gary continually refuses to understand.  The USA is not a banana republic.  Public assassinations in broad daylight in view of hundreds of people with cameras is not how it's done.  Professional assassins do not use $21.95 weapons.  JFK's reaction to the CIA after the Bay of Pigs failure was a knee cop reaction.  JFK even continued to play golf with DCI.  The critics shrug aside the fact that President Kennedy, after the most rigorous inquiry into the agency's affairs, methods and problems after the Bay of Pigs, did not "splinter" it after all and did not even recommend Congressional oversight.

Paul,

what if there were 2 consipacies? The plot to kill JKF, a small one somehow centring on Oswald. A second one....the coverup....unrelated, but evoked to prevent WWIII.

Colin, questions that begin "what if" are dangerous as you know.  They're based on speculation and conjecture and not much else.  However, they are entertaining at times.  We surely can speculate on hundreds if not thousands of ways 11/22 played out.  However, ultimately we have to come back to the actual evidence in the case.  IMO, the evidence proves beyond a doubt Oswald committed the crime.  The supposed coverup is a bit more complex.  Exactly what do American citizens have a right to know?  The clandestine organizations such as the CIA, NSA et al work on a need to know basis.  During my military service, I served with ONI during my Vietnam tour.  Never forget the preamble to the U. S. Constitution....."provide for the common defense".  At a time when the government believed the U. S. might be vulnerable from the USSR, they took necessary steps to protect this country.  For me, this is not sinister.  For conspiracy theorists, it is.  The obligation for clandestine services is to protect assets at all costs.  This is their number one priority.

Paul,
my comments were to the original post by Andeas where he posted a huge collection of "what ifs" and then proceded to dismiss the notion of any consipracy based on them (or most). My point was that there are those that believe that Oswald was not alone in the assassination and that a smaller consipracy could have been hidden by the coverup procedure. The second conspiracy need not be associated with the first and may have been undertaken for the "greater good".
