Even professional eyewitnesses get it wrong  (Read 1218 times)

Eyewitness testimony can be interesting and even meaningful when taken in context. But it should by no means ever be the final word.

Umpires and referees are paid eyewitnesses. They are highly trained. They are on alert, ready to see something and make decisions based on what they've seen.

And yet they frequently get it wrong.

For those across the pond, sorry for the baseball clip, I know the sport is like hieroglyphics to many of you, but you can follow the logic of this report anyway.

Miles,

I have watched that clip several times, and most certainly it is dust and debris.  Look st the point of origin, and you will see the dust lifts in a large area, basically encompassing the whole port he is shooting out of.

Whitman was shooting a Remington 700 in 6mm, a .35 cal pump rifle, and an M1 which is 30-06.

None of these would produce that kind of smoke.

Ya see they invented smokeless cartridges in about 1891.

There is far to much smoke for a smokeless cartridge, and unless Whitman loaded his own, using black powder, then it has to be debris.

Perhaps Whitman had a musket up there that no one has ever found?

Perhaps Whitman is the first person in history to successfully snipe.....with a blunderbuss......

Weeper, I know all this. And you are right. Plus, you are entitled to your opinion. So am I.

I looks to me, judging from the camera jiggle, that Whitman fired one of his weapons through the portals, which weapon did not produce noticeable smoke.

On the other hand, I saw, in the clip, gun smoke blowing from left to right all the way across the camera window from an unseen origin point off to the left of the camera window.

More Magic Dust?

No way, José. Ain't going to happen.

"The shots were louder than a pistol. At first we thought they were cherry bombs." (11-29-63 article in The Texas Observer, quoting Yarborough outside Parkland Hospital on 11-22-63) "I heard three loud explosions, like a deer rifle.  You could smell powder all the way here.

No professional (CIA, Cubans, Mob) is going to fire a high powered rifle out in the open (knoll) without a silencer.
