There's no doubt that he slipped Robert.
I guess we'll never really know why he slipped, but my theory is that he slipped because he was trying to scoop something from the trunk, probably the same thing that Jackie was going for.
Here's another video showing some extra frames to see it all in the perspective.

In the 2nd sequence you posted, it looks like his hand slips off the hand hold as the limo speeds up, then his forward momentum makes him put his hand down to stop this same momentum. You can see him actually leap for the back step just prior, thats where all this momentum starts. He is just putting his hand down (reflexively) to stop his forward motion/potential fall. Thats my .02
But in that first clip, yeah, it sure looks like he scooped something off the lid.

Right.

If you check the frames, there is nothing on the trunk surface to grasp, clutch or pick up in the area of the surface where Hill is putting his hand. Also, remember that the frame rate is 18.3 per second. Why would Hill concern himself with a piece of brain or bone when, in his mind, the only consideration would be his charge: the safety of Jackie? Hill thinks: "Yeah, grab that chunk of brain, that'll save Jack."

Hi Duncan

In your animation the scoop appears to happen before jackie crawls out onto the trunk.

In my Nix GIF it appears to show Clint Hill slipping AFTER jackie lays across the trunck. ?

Well, somebody did it.

Looks like he slipped because the car abruptly sped up  to me.

LN; So how did it happen then ?

CT; I don't know, I only know that it didn't happen the way the evidence says.

LN;  We should not use evidence in this case ?

CT; Correct.
